We live in a safe neighborhood, we do a lot of enriching activities, and I feel like it would be a loss I would always regret to miss so much precious time with her.

The elementary school ends at 4:30, but dismissal begins at 4:20. Saturday school is only once a month and consists of extracurricular activities. For example, my ds takes a Step Class and is in Cub Scouts during his Saturday school sessions. Children can be exempt if they participate in another activity (martial arts, dance, music, sports, etc.) that conflict with Saturday school, but must provide documentation.

It's almost dark at 4:30. Also, our family pancakes, and playing catch at Norwood Park on Saturdays probably wouldn't make the cut. We're not willing to give that up. I think KIPP is great, it's just not right for us.

It is perfectly fine if it is not a good fit for your family. But, to exclude it from the list of top schools because it does not fit your criteria is wrong.

Sure, I agree. But then, I didn't exclude it from the list of top schools. I was a new poster to the thread and simply chimed in that I respect the school, even though I wouldn't choose it for my particular child.

Top DC Charter Middle Schools

Latin
Cap City
Two Rivers
KIPP
Basis
Howard University Math & Science
Haynes
DC Prep
Achievement Preparatory Academy

BASIS does not yet exist in DC. So clearly, this list is wrong.
Also secondary schools. Not relevant to this thread.

My analogy is this when B. Smith serves fried chicken and potato salad it is soul good. But when Paula Deen provides the same menu it southern cuisine. There's always the patron who wants to dine out occasionally but prefers too eat in their own social circle.

Boy, when you start chewing on a bone, you don't let it go.

The list was posted in response to claim that KIPP is not cited on this board as a top choice on the latest list is because of an us/them issue. Thus, the posting an earlier "top" list demonstrates that indeed, the maligned posters who were invited to "discuss amongst themselves" are actually discussing how they have cited DC Prep and KIPP as great options, and there's a modicum of egalitarian on DCUM.

22:17, also beware of the dog who brings a bone, because he/she will definitely carry one away.

Roaring Laughter....

DC Prep starts with 4th grade, right? That's why it's not on the last.

Muffled laughter..........

KIPP does not start at pre-K, right? I'm looking for Pre-K and K level.

Rock on!

The very same reason DC Prep did not make the list.

KIPP and DC PREP are not on the list that I created because my sons are underage for these schools. That's it! No controversy needs to start!!!!!!!!!!

Kipp does have preK and K - Kipp Grow. Shares the building with Will. Look on their website.

The information on the DC Public charter schools list by tier is incorrect then. They list all of the Kipp schools as having either 4-8 or 5-8!!!!!!!!!!!

OP, the problem with the "best" charters that you have listed there is that your non-sibling preference chances of enrollment at most of them are very low. For example, there were 500+ kids on the LAMB waiting list last year. Yes, try for all of them, there's no limit on the number of charter schools you can try (although keeping up with all the wait list movement will be difficult -- you'll need a spreadsheet). But also be thinking of schools which are turning but have not yet turned, where you can get in the year before it does turn. Think Takoma or Powell, for example. Look at the school chooser document for real info on the schools. Good luck!
