Best Charter Elementary School

No, you're wrong. KIPP is nationally recognized as one of the best charters in the country. DCUM liberal readers fail to recognize the school as one of the best in the city because the school is populated by racial minorities.

The very same reason DC Prep did not make the list.

Is Center City awful? I'd WAY rather have my white kid at KIPP.

Yu Ying is an excellent school. We've been there since the beginning, and it's been a fantastic education for our children. Please, haters, no need to rebut, this is just my opinion.

Is there any data on the success of KIPP graduates in college admissions?

Some Center City campuses are excellent--check out the latest charter board report.

I'm a liberal and the reason I'm not wanting KIPP or DC PREP for my white upper middle class kid is because I'm greedy and want as much time with my kid before he goes off to college and those schools keep the kids in school for way more hours than a typical school does. Plus, we can afford private school so maybe it is immoral to take a spot at DC Prep or KIPP that would otherwise go to a kid whose parents can't afford any alternative. On the other hand, when it comes time to tour middle schools, those schools will be on our list to consider and if it seems like a perfect fit for our kid, then, yeah, we will try to get in-- and meanwhile just hold my boy tight to me for as long he will let me.

+1

Also, the Director said that Bridges is growing into a full elementary school.

I think KIPP is great. However, I don't want my child be a "lonely only." Also, she doesn't need to spend THAT much time in school (until 5 every day plus Saturdays). We live in a safe neighborhood, we do a lot of enriching activities, and I feel like it would be a loss I would always regret to miss so much precious time with her.

The elementary school ends at 4:30, but dismissal begins at 4:20. Saturday school is only once a month and consists of extracurricular activities. For example, my ds takes a Step Class and is in Cub Scouts during his Saturday school sessions. Children can be exempt if they participate in another activity (martial arts, dance, music, sports, etc.) that conflict with Saturday school, but must provide documentation.

So what IS the deal with Center City? Anyone sent their child there or know someone who has?

BASIS does not yet exist in DC. So clearly, this list is wrong.

There you have it, if there's a possibility of the school being all AA then it will never rank as the "best." Then people wonder why DCPS as a whole is such a hotbed of tension. Remember charter schools were inherited for DC on the premise to bring middle-class whites back to the District.

I am assuming that science experiment didn't work.

It's almost dark at 4:30. Also, our family pancakes, and playing catch at Norwood Park on Saturdays probably wouldn't make the cut. We're not willing to give that up. I think KIPP is great, it's just not right for us.
