To which US metropolitan areas would you absolutely not relocate?

I'd make an exception for Denver.

Same here. My husband keeps wanting to put Austin on the acceptable list, but I don't think I could live there. I can't get over the fact that it's surrounded by Texas.

Don't write it off so easily! We lived in Austin and LOVED it. It's unlike the rest of Texas- very modern, young, lots to do, beautiful city. West Texas is trash, but Austin is lovely.

really? is it a stable offer? Think about the awesome house you could get. I've also seen articles/ references to an artistic movement/ renaissance there.

NP. I would say hell no to the city of Detroit, however the suburbs are nice from what I hear.

Detroit has super cheap direct flights to most places via Delta/NW (plus if you need to visit family on both coasts).

Taking OP at his/her word ("metropolitan area" and not "random exurb-rural places") I'd say

Dallas
San Antonio
Houston
Miami
Atlanta
Phoenix

oh! ^^^ and Las Vegas, for sure

where in Austin did you live? I'm the poster who almost relocated there. We did a preliminary househunt there and really liked Westlake and Allandale. Austin was a nice city, and I would have been OK living there.

My in-laws are in San Antonio area, and aside from the Riverwalk area, I HATE that place. We also recently went to a family wedding in Houston, and it was just as bad.

Good list, although I could probably tolerate Atlanta. Possibly Phoenix. Add LA to the list, for sure.

Who cares about a big house! Artistic renaissance = maybe in the four blocks that make up downtown AA. In visiting in laws there all I've come across is dirty snow, puffer jackets, chain restaurants, ultra-conservatives, and swinger neighbors. Though a couple of weeks in July on the water are pleasant. No thanks!

The only cities I would move to are LA, San Francisco, Paris, London, maybe NYC, maybe my hometown of Baltimore (NO traffic and cheap housing!).

Texas, anywhere in south or southeast. Not big on the midwest but Twin Cities would be ok. I could go west coast, Rockies, NE.

Seriously, I would quit work and hide before you could relocate me to a place that is proud to vote for "anybody but the black guy."

So it is ok to live in a city that is proud to have voted for someone solely because he IS black? Not possible that any of those people voted for the candidate they thought best for the country, even if he happens to be white?

Nice open mind and appreciation for diversity. Congratulations.

We lived a little north of Austin proper, near Round Rock. Though west of the city in Dripping Springs is also nice. San Antonio is not a favorite of mine either, nor Houston. I've never been to Dallas except for the airport, so no opinion there. El Paso is the "major" West Texas city I've been to and you couldn't pay me to live there. Austin though was really great.

I'd hate Chicago winters but think I'd really love Chicago itself. Stop hating on Atlanta, it's not as bad as yall assume! I'm from Georgia and lived in metro Atlanta for awhile. Crazy traffic, but really not a bad place to live. Love Phoenix but don't think I could live there. Twin Cities winters would also be brutal but I think I'd like it there.

Atlanta traffic sucks, but great weather, great people, great cost of living. and Austin is a wonderful city. Amazing ignorance here.

Yes - why the hate for Atlanta? Lower cost of living, great weather, and plenty to do.

L.A. or N.Y.C. I can't deal with that many people all the time. D.C. is big enough for me.

I would LOVE to live live in Portland, OR. It's pretty chill.
