New York. I've already told DH I'll go anywhere but NY (and that includes several overseas hellholes). He lived there for four years before he moved here and he agrees.

No, stay away from Texas. It is an amazing state (the I-35 cities). So if you are the kind of person who has disdain for it, stay away and don't mess up the great state of Texas for all of us who love it.

what is so great about the I-35 cities?

Dallas, Austin, San Antonio. All great places to live and visit.

I agree, I've lived in Dallas and San Antonio, and I found Texas to have the nicest and friendliest people, and I'm from MN.

really? is it a stable offer? Think about the awesome house you could get. I've also seen articles/ references to an artistic movement/ renaissance there.

Who cares about a big house! Artistic renaissance = maybe in the four blocks that make up downtown AA. In visiting in laws there all I've come across is dirty snow, puffer jackets, chain restaurants, ultra-conservatives, and swinger neighbors. Though a couple of weeks in July on the water are pleasant. No thanks!

Detriot is a failed union jobs based city. I would never move there, they have the worse unemployment and everyone is fleeing. It's shit hole of shit holes.

Is this the whole region or just the city?

For me, it is a much smaller list to where I would relocate.

If I had the income I would live in San Francisco or NYC in a heartbeat. It would probably take more than twice what we make now. I would also live in Denver, Boulder (we've actually discussed relocating there) or Chicago. (I grew up in the burbs of Chicago so the winters don't bother me)

I would consider Portland or Seattle, but I really don't have any connection or particular affinity for these places. They just have a cool vibe.

As for cities like Boston, Philadelphia, or Minneapolis, we would have to look really closely at the offer. I'm not sure it would be worth giving up all the friends we have here.

I'm not going any further South than I am right now.

I would consider moving almost anywhere in Western Europe for a few years if the offer was right.

I'm from Detroit and if I could find a job there I'd move back in a heartbeat.

So funny that most people are not mentioning New England. We always said we would never move north of DC and two years ago were relocated (for DH job) to Boston (live in the burbs). There are some wonderful things about New England but it's where a foodie goes to die. I have never had such bad food in my life.

Rudest people I've encountered in the U.S. in New England. No thanks!

Why? Do you like declining areas?
Anonymous
Anywhere in the South. Can't take the heat and the Christianity.

I could do Detroit because my family's from there, but otherwise I'd steer clear of it ... and as much as I would love San Francisco or Portland, it's too far from the East Coast family. So it's the East Coast for us. If not DC, we'd be in Boston or Philadelphia. I'd move to either in a heartbeat if the federal government (and hence our jobs) relocated there!
