where in Austin did you live?  I'm the poster who almost relocated there.  We did a preliminary househunt there and really liked Westlake and Allandale.  Austin was a nice city, and I would have been OK living there.

My in-laws are in San Antonio area, and aside from the Riverwalk area, I HATE that place.  We also recently went to a family wedding in Houston, and it was just as bad.[/quote]

We lived a little north of Austin proper, near Round Rock. Though west of the city in Dripping Springs is also nice. San Antonio is not a favorite of mine either, nor Houston. I've never been to Dallas except for the airport, so no opinion there. El Paso is the "major" West Texas city I've been to and you couldn't pay me to live there. Austin though was really great.
