Spoken like a true 45 year old Mom of a newborn.

Not OP, but my Mom is 55 and I'm 31. Not everyone waits until they're menopausal before procreating.

OP, maybe buy your Mom an inexpensive pair of jeans (Old Navy maybe?). Perhaps cost is what is holding her back from exploring contemporary jean styles.

So it's turned to this, eh?

If you and OP were mature enough to handle life's true difficulties, you wouldn't be categorizing "mom jeans" under a major catastrophe. Now run along and go find some friends to play with. It's a beautiful day!

The world is falling apart around us:

and all you worry about is this?

What a pathetic group of "women."

I can't take it anymore but she is being really, really stubborn. She is 60 and looks great (a size 8-10) but these jeans....ugh. I know she wants high waisted and I'm not against that - just not these Mom jean brands and looks! Have you dragged your mom shopping at Nordstroms or somewhere else? What brands/styles made the transition and does she like them now?

What does your 7 year old know about anything? (or maybe she gets her mean spirited attitude from Mamma?)

Stop criticizing your mom and just love her for the way she is, jeans and all. Geez. How did you like it when she criticized your clothing choices as a teen?

No one said I didn't love her for who she is. But she is not, and never was, style-conscious. It's just not her thing. I am far more vain and princess-like than she...and that's not saying much, since I don't ever do my hair and rarely wear makeup. I was a tomboy in HS so, uh, not clothing fights there - she was happy to buy me more men's T-shirts and baggy jeans. (Remember the grunge days...)

I want her to feel good about how she looks, and recently I provided some *solicited* input on hair color and the result was that she looked 15 years younger and loved the change. I want her to feel like she deserves more flattering clothes, even if they cost more, because she is worth it. I can tell you flat out that she doesn't think she should be spending money on herself or the time involved trying on clothes (but she'll buy me 3 sweaters if I mention that I need 1).

And honestly, if I worked hard to maintain my weight and wasn't wearing the most flattering clothes, I would want someone to guide me in the right direction!

It is more than possible to have a young mom and be 40.

This is DC, there are probably 61 year olds with newborns on this board.

I'm the person you quoted and you are right!

Good for you.

Well, to make you all feel better.. my husband wears mom jeans, and he's only 40. But I have long ago learned to let him be. Seriously, how would you feel if anyone started to nag you about your jeans?

I wonder if some selective shopping at Lands End might work? Not all Lands End are super mom-ish, though they are certainly more high-waisted than I would wear...Also, even Levis has lots of styles, not all are super-young.

That's one part of DC.

In another part of DC, you get the 15 yr old mama, the 31 yr old gramma, the 47 yr old great-gramma. Occasionally the 67 yr old great-great-gramma is still alive at 67, but that life expectancy is a stretch in those Wards.

Speaking of stretch, I bought a pair of Not Your Mother's Jeans today and they rock! Well, I think they'll wear out quickly due to thin fabric. But they look good for now.

Now if only I could get my FIL out of his stone washed jean shorts and pulled up white socks...

Yeah, it's the part of DC that's on THIS board!
