That would be the same as making the assumption that everyone who sounds like Archie Bunker holds his views about life and people.

I'm not defending it; I'm admitting it.

"Assumption" isn't a fair word. That implies some consciousness. I'm talking about an unconscious prejudice that affects my impressions. Yeah - it's for blacks and whites. And BTW, I have pretty much the same prejudice about thick urban accents like Archie Bunker's.

I assume that happened as the descendents of white European immigrants moved out the ghettos and were replaced by black families.

So you use "yellow trash," I assume?

Not the PP, but the answer is probably no because there are other derogatory terms that would be used by some people.

I've always taken pride in the fact that White people don't care about being racially derided and made fun of. The same goes for Christianity. I think its great that the world feels free to deride Christianity. It shows strength and confidence. The World knows we are more than strong enough to take insults. Other races and religions need more empathy and helping hands.

An "African American" woman was at the desk and asked if I was look for a map. I said "yes" and she pointed me to the maps with Asian language. She even had the balls to say "the maps for your people are here". Twice she said that to me. I told her "I can't read anything but English" and she repeated herself. For the 3rd time. Seriously maybe next time I should ask her where the maps in Ebonics are.

The woman was rude and ignorant, but what relevance does your story have to this thread?

Yes, I think it's racist and classist. I also think trailer trash is classist. I understand calling someone trash if they truly are (rapists, abusers, murders, etc.), but why should someone be called trash just because they live in a mobile home and/or are poor.

I think it's disgusting to refer to people that way when they've done nothing to deserve the label of trash.

I think you know the answer to your question. At least, the poster thought all of us would understand the context of that personal example.

For a more extensive list of the superior features of white Christians, see the writings of Schopenhauer.

Really? I read and hear quite often of Christians complaining about being persecuted and how the whole worlds against them.

Sure don't. Maybe you should explain it to me. The thread is about whether the term "white trash" is racist. The PP shared a story about how a black museum worker racially stereotyped him and was very rude to him. Sad story, but I don't see the connection.

It's a terrible label that I think should end. FWIW, I don't think most people think those who live in trailers deserve that name just because of where they live. It's certain behaviors that have unfairly become associated with the term.

Many DCUM threads have posts with a variety of opinions and examples. It seems that the PP was giving an example of being stereotyped, which does relate to the tread.

This argument makes no sense. Does the term "white privilege" (or "male privilege" for that matter) imply that most white people are not privileged?

In fact PPs statement was exactly such a complaint, thinly veiled. Poor white Christians - everyone's against them!
