I don't know at all how to dress for this body type, so I run around in my exercise clothes all day (I work at home). I literally have nothing nice to wear and decline social invitations as a result. If you lare about 50 and, like me, have some weight to lose, where do you buy clothes? I was always a conservative (preppy) dresser, but even Talbots looks wrong on me now. Thanks for advice!

Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, Kohl's, on-line. Talbots would look wrong on anyone at age 50.

Why would Talbots look wrong on anyone at age 50? I wear it and am 50. Oh no! Is everybody laughing at me!?!

^^I was wondering the same thing about Talbots. It's not for women over 50? On the other fashion board, they're always saying how "old ladyish" Talbots is and no one in their 40's should wear it. Can someone explain why it would look odd for a 50 y.o. to wear talbots for weekend casual wear?

I am over 50 and Talbots is my "go to" store. I can't imagine anyone much younger than 40 wanting to shop at Talbots.

I've been loving Banana Republic's tops - the cut is very forgiving

I would, however, wear the Eileen Fisher Foldover Crepe skirt 3x a week with Spanx.

Do you find the Eileen Fisher skirts to be true size wise -- I am sometimes a 4 and sometimes a 6 and am trying to decide between XS and S -- TIA

Nordstrom, Nordstrom, Nordstrom. Saks.

Macy's, Nordstroms, Bloomingdale's, Saks, Neiman's, other botique stores. Also, stop wearing black all the time. What the hell, women gain weight but you don't have to look as though you're in mourning all the time.

I'm the 50 year old who went from a 14 to a 10.

Like the other PP who commented on exercise, I walk about 5 times per week for 30 to 45 minutes, usually on my treadmill but when the weather is nice I like to walk outside. I also do stretching and some arm weights to get rid of the arm flab but that has been slow going!

Another thing that I think really helps with weight loss is avoiding eating out. Restaurant food is just really fattening. I bring my lunch to work every day (salads or no-carb lettuce wraps) and try not to eat dinner out more than once a week.

Good luck - it's not easy!!

Did this question (Eileen Fisher skirts) ever get resolved? I went today sure that a small would work for me, but it doesn't in the waist (I am normally a 4 or a 6 more towards a 6 right now). I'll return the clothes (can't bear to try them on in a store) but am eager to know is those who are in an XS Eileen Fisher are seeing "tight" skirts -- the line may not be for me since I am so out of shape and have a midsection with a mind of its own as a result.

I don't work, my kids are grown and I love to go out to eat. I enjoy a nice Chardonnay. I like to feel pretty just like everyone else. However I am not willing to give up comfort. I also need clothes that travel well
I like Chicos. They have a Travelers line that is great. You can roll them up in a ball and they still look like new. I also like L L Bean. Just got a great. LBD there.
I am a size 14. Nothing ever fits me at Nordstrom. Everything at Talbots is either too big or too small. Love Payless for shoes and think people who feel a need to wear someone's logo on their shoes, handbags or clothing is insecure. Payless shoes are so comfortable.
I have picked up some pieces at H&M.
Macy's is my go to department store. Just got some rather interesting nighties there (finally got the kids out of the house!)
Being in your 50's is like being back in your 20's.....but you have money and wisdom.
