Ladies, check your local Macy's - they have free personal shoppers at the bigger ones. I have used them (different people, and at different locations all across the country) and found them to be great. You may need to travel to a more metro-Macy's, but it'll be worth it. Separate dressing rooms, wine, and they're so nice.
P.S. No Mom, you do NOT tip them. |
saks, bloomingdales... Wear dark colors bur black only. Buy a book " Does this make me look fat". Fit is the mosr important thing for all ages so you need a tailor. |
. But NOT black only. |
Went looking for a dress for a wedding last month and Macy's was a complete blowout. Tried on 30 mostly colorful dresses that looked cute on the rack and only found one decent dress. Of course it was black. I wear a size 12-14. Used to be a 6 or 8. |
+1 There is an Eileen Fisher at Tyson's II Galeria. I've been wearing Eileen Fisher since I was in my mid 30s. Her clothes look fabulous on younger and older women. Great fabrics as well. |
Love this thread! Am closer to 60 than 50 and I have noticed that comfort means more to me than it did before, when I was size 8. Now size 14, nothing looks great, but I do notice I get more respect in public in more expensive clothes. But, now retired, every morning I think comfort vs style LOL Comfort wins many times. Yes, I love Chicos, but it has gotten very cheap looking lately. Nordstrom. |
I went from size 6 to size 4 at 50. I shop Lord and Taylor, Ann Taylor DK outlet (work), and Lululemon, athletica, gap, Zara, Duluth Trading, REI, Orvis for casual. Exercise (walk) and went vegetarian, almost vegan. Love to juice lots and lots of veggies. Much better energy and peace of mind. Becoming empty nester helps too! |
J. Jill, Eileen Fisher, Talbots. Occasional designer pieces, usually from consignment shops. |
Costco...not a joke. |
Nike and under armour, splendid. Patagonia, Valentino, Rick Owens, Miu miu. I like stand alone storesbut also like Neiman Marcus, Barney's, Nordstrom's.
I work out hard (run & crossfit) and wear size 8 tops/0 pants, have a lean but curvy hourglass figure at 51. |
REI. Love their pants, shirts and shorts.
I have actually bought my elderly mother some of their t-shirts and they look awesome on her an are her favorite. Be adventurous and have a look sometime |
I'm 53 and a size 4-6. I but at consignment shops, Jcrew, Lord and Taylor and Zara's. |
J. Jill. Great lines, some pieces have interesting cuts/aspects, very forgiving around the middle. |
Nordstrom. Lord and Taylor for dresses. If you have good legs, consider wearing tailored dresses/skirts for the slimming factor. |
The Especially if you are short. |
