What else do you need? A paid student information sheet writer to write politically pleasing words??

Go figure!

Sorry but this post doesn't ring true to me. How do you know her essays were "decent"?

Was told by the admissions office this morning that she didn't get highest score, but did very good on essays. Only problem was her student info sheet. But I was refused the scores on any of these items. Is thirteen year old expected to show the wisdom of 40 year old in writing when expressing their passion? Or Is Math not a expected passion for a STEM high school?

Ah, there was your mistake.
I'm sure alot of the thirteen year old applicants' essays were written by 40 year olds.

Great way to discriminate and call that wellroundedness

The essays are written as part of the exam so parents/adults do not have a chance to "tinker" with those essays.

Looks like there will still be plenty of Asians. Bet most of them had perfect scores AND wrote perfect essays.

Congratulate your kid's TJ admission. Unfortunately, this is the fact that your kid may have the first B/B+ when take summer chem after 9th grade. The best tutor I can recommend peterap1@hotmail.com. He is a specialized doctor who have taught TJ students only summer chem, IBET, AP chem/AP Bio/AP Environmental science. The summer chem is known to be very tough if not prepare It crams one year course in 5 weeks. If prepare early, it's relatively easy and could get A-/A. The first week, most get A/A-, 2nd week, B+A-A, third week, B B+A-A, 4th week, C B B+ A-, less A, the final week, mostly get B B+, a few get A. Even get B in summer chem, he helped students get A in both AP Bio and AP Chem. Some got award in outside competitions after learning from him.

No need to wait for the letter

If you are :

Asian-accepted
Black-sorry
White-You really need to be friends with an asian

This would be funny if it was not so racist.

This would be funny if it was not so true.

Actually, it is pretty funny.

If you actually think TJ Admissions are Merit based, then I hope your naïvité is a comfort.

My child also got 100% 50/50 50/50, GPA 4.0, also were told by admissions the same thing, highest possible Teacher Rec scores, but that "subjective part" (SIS and Essays) is mystery, except that it is not a mystery, since Essay writting is a huge strength and the SIS was excellent, (but written by a 13 year old). Not Asian. Not White.

You can remind her that her GPA does not matter, admissions did not look at that, so she was likely beaten by kids with Bs, and probably Cs in other subjects that don't count, like Civics and English. Minimum GPA to make the pool is 3.0. Also remind her that her Verbal entrance Exam does not matter either, they did not consider it so she was most definitely beaten by kids with 30s/50 and 40s/50 verbal. No wonder They need to hire an ESL specialist at TJ.

There wasn't a dip in the Asian admittance rate this year so I have to believe she just didn't do well on the essays.
She sounds like someone who' has checked off all the right boxes at this point in life, but maybe she just doesn't write all that persuasively.

I would have agreed that probably her essays. Because essay portion counts 25%, this can be a critical score for the admission.

Was you daughter wait-listed?
Anonymous
There are feeder school quotas and many kids admitted took $600-790 tj test prep courses.

1. Essays [25%] - Persuasive writing
2. SIS [20%] - Rated on persuasive writing or true accomplishments that only come with true passion? She was rated deficient in this area
3. Teacher Reqs [20%] - There is no way for teachers to give a rating of exemplary. If they had they would have.
4. Math Test Score [20%]
5. Math & Science GPA [15%]

If they're rating 45%(25%+20%) on persuasive writing there is no way TJ would have needed an ESOL teachers.

If they were rating accomplishments on SIS, then why did my daughter with so many accomplishments and true passion (she truly spends 15-20/wk doing extra math and that is the only time there is happiness in her). She expressed her passion like a 13 yr old. If it didn't come across as a passion because of average writing skills, does that lower the accomplishment to a nothing?
Is it fair to use 45% writing skills vs 35% academics. Does this point to messed up admissions process letting parents & professionals compete in the SIS space? Applicants get 3 weeks complete the SIS.

Does it sound fair to anyone? I totally agree reading and writing skills are a very important part of everything, but they shouldn't rank higher than Math & Science achievements, passion or their ability to do Math & Science.

Are persuasive writing skills more important than math and science abilities for scientist or mathematician? We do want scientist to be able to express, but also have meaningful material to express.

No, my daughter is not waitlisted.
