Anyone hear yet from TJ? We're in GF, and didn't get anything in the mail today.

| Nothing here either. Of course it took a month last time to receive the semifinalist letter so I'll be looking around May 1. |

TJ posted on the site that all the finalist letters went out on Friday April 1st, and no one can call before Friday April 8th to ask about their child if the letter hasn't reached them.
We got our DD's semifinalist letter pretty quick, but it was a slow agony for some of her classmates that got their semifinalist letters three or four days later, not knowing while a lot of their friends knew. Hate to say the next part, because it could start a firestorm...but one of the mothers of a classmate of DD's told me that it took them a few days to get to see the letter because they "temporarily" moved from her parents home to somewhere in Loudon county, so she had to wait until a weekend to swing by and pick up her mail. |

Maybe the family didn't really live in Loudon but lived somewhere that can't send kids to TJ? |

| I thought Loudon county was limited to the number of kids who can get accepted? I remember a few years back that one student was transferred out of TJ because the county he lived in wouldn't pay for his tuition any longer. |

My guess is similar to what 13:08 posted, given the last article in the Post on TJ and the number of families who use the addresses of relatives in Fairfax County to qualify as a resident for TJ. If they aren't checking to see if you are here legally as a student (they aren't - all of the county public schools have to enroll kids whether the parents turn out to be legal residents or not - the proof of utility bills, etc. is a soft standard) then they probably aren't checking addresses to see who lives there.

Here's what you need to meet the TJ residency requirement:
The applicant’s parent or legal guardian must submit the following three documents as proof of residency at the time of application: Copy of one of the following: current lease, current deed, or current mortgage statement; AND Copy of one of the following: current gas, electric, water, or land-line telephone bill; AND Copy of one of the following: Virginia driver’s license; Commonwealth of Virginia identification card; current payroll stub; or current bank statement. Seems like about as much as they can do. |

| Good point. They do require the principal of the elementary school to sign a statement that the address claimed is the same as the one on file at the elementary school, but that doesn't address the issue you raise. |

Actually, I am not sure what PP is talking about. My DD is at a MS in Vienna and we asked for an application, filled it out, gave it back to the school with our check, the TJ coordinator at the school (or maybe Dean of Students) signed the part that said the student was in good standing, and she was given a testing id.
Maybe you are talking about a situation when a parent requests an application right from TJ? No MS in Fairfax County that I know of makes a parent turn in anything but a check and a filled in application back to the school. |

| We are not in Fairfax County but at a private school in another participating jurisdiction. When my daughter applied, we had to submit all the proof of residency listed in the earlier post, and our principal had to verify that the address on our application was the same as the one on file at her current school. |
