Fun question!
If we decided to stay in the area, I'd want to stay in Arlington . . . in one of those hard-to-find houses that has it all . . . open layout with lots of of square footage . . . on a big, wooded lot . . . in a friendly neighborhood that truly feels like a neighborhood. ![]() I'd also want a beachfront place Bethany and maybe somewhere nice in the mountains (w/in a 3 hour drive or a non-stop plane ride.) Sadly, I'm at the stage where I'd rather have a second home in an easy-to-reach destination than somewhere more exotic. I figure I'd want to "upgrade" later, when the kiddos are older and/or out of the nest! ![]() |
The annuity payment would be about $8,250,000/yr after taxes, assuming the max. tax rate. The cash option would be about $128,000,000 post tax, with the same assumptions. |

House in London and maybe move there (DH is from there, family there and with money London is awesome). Holiday villa in Italy with tons of space so many friends could congregate every summer. Apartment in NYC or DC. not sure if we'd stay state side, but would keep property here. House in Key Biscayne, FL. |
Holy crap, really?! That is so much money! Why am I not playing the mega million when it gets big? How did you figure out the yearly payout? If it was really that much money I'd totally quit my job (because I work for the federal government and am transferred to a new country every two to three years and hate moving) start a foundation, be a defender of human rights, and make huge anonymous donations to individuals in need. I would move back to my favorite city, Chicago, and I would take time every year to go to a meditation retreat in Thailand. This conversation makes me wonder why I can't / don't do any of these things now...with what I have. |
Um, did anyone actually read the OP's question? She's asking where you would live if you stayed in the DC area. |
I wouldn't leave this area or quit my job, but I'd probably take a year off to travel and look for vacation houses to buy. I'd like one on in California, Washington state and in the Philippines. |
Hmmm....
If my main residence still needed to be in the area... I would live in Georgetown walking distance to the DuPont metro. I would also buy a villa in France, and a home on Martha's Vineyard. |
