I am so confused by your post. By Fatherland do you mean Hawaii or Kenya? Neither of which have ever had an Ebola outbreak, so it would be logical to refuse a travel ban. And his strategies worked. A total of 2 people have contrated Ebola in the US. Neither of them contracted it from people vomiting on the sidewalk, they both contracted it from patients they were treating. Both recovered. So, yes, I would say I am A-OK with a response that prevented even a single death. |
DP here: Why does saying that the US should participate imply a "uniquely US response". The US should participate in keeping the world safe from deadly viruses. Other countries should too. I vote in the US, so obviously I am most interested in the US response, since that's where I can make an impact. |

Who else is participating and what exactly are they doing? Are they forcing their people to get vaccinated? |
There is no vaccine for this strain of Ebola, and the cost to develop and test a vaccine is very high. The USA used to have professionals on the ground in these regions, and could have spotted this earlier before the spread or provided help to other countries to transport tests or supplies. |
It isn’t effective. We know travel bans such as this do not work. The spread is already happening and people have already traveled. The incubation period is longer than a few days and therefore can be missed. In fact, it’s damaging to prevent humanitarian aid from entering the affected areas, to prevent protective supplies and disinfectant and tests from entering is simply ridiculous and foolhardy. They are running out of these things as I write this. |
Who else is participating? let me google that for you: EU https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/news-events/ecdc-activates-eu-health-task-force-deploying-experts-support-ebola-outbreak-response ACDC https://africacdc.org/news-item/ebola-response-statement-from-the-director-general-africa-cdc/ Kenya: https://www.afro.who.int/countries/kenya/news/behind-scenes-ebola-disease-outbreak-response UK: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-steps-up-support-to-stop-spread-of-ebola-in-eastern-drc I'm sure you can keep googling if you actually care... |
The US is providing funding, aid, and coordination. Groups have been tracking this. It’s not coming out of nowhere. |
I don’t really and i don’t think it’s our problem to solve. |
| Time to watch Outbreak again. |
| The only solution is to end billionaires. |
Kkkaroline, you might want to read other news sources: https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/22/africa/ebola-us-aid-cuts-drc-uganda-intl |
You don’t care about human suffering? If you are that selfish, you might want to know it has a 40% death rate and it’s a horrible way to die. And we are not immune. |
+1 Even if you are that selfish, you should be try to be less dumb and realize that you do not live on a deserted island, and that diseases don't respect national boundaries. Even if you ban people from country X and Y, a traveler may already be spreading it in country Z. Ebola can be asymptomatic for a period.... |
I'm not concerned. You're just worried about catching it yourself, not for actual suffering of others. Wear your mask, stay home, the usual things you do. |
