Hoarding a field when you have your own cuts against an equitable and inclusive community.

The school could at least give up a couple days week to let Hardy practice.

Hoarding? Or using the field in accordance with an agreement they signed with the city?

Both can be true. Maret can decide it's equitable to share the field. Private capture of a field for kids is just gross.

Private capture! Hoarding! Bribery! You sure do have a way with words

I note you didn't address the substance of my comment.

They still have claim to it. Whether they actually show up or not, I don't know. But I know Maret only allows Hardy to use the field on Wednesdays unless they have a game or something.

(unless Maret -- not Hardy -- has a game or something, in which case Maret will not grant Hardy the charity of using the field.)

Sounds like Maret doesn't use the field anymore. Maybe it's a DPR issue?

I guess the issue is that there is a contract where Maret has the right to use it, and that contract still remains valid.

If a person has a rental agreement, they will continue have the right to decide who enters the apartment even thought they don’t live there. So I guess is a contractual issue.

Yes. Maret could end the contract.

Unsurprising behavior on the part of Maret. Such “good neighbors”!

And yet DCPS never used the Duke Ellington School field. Hardy could have walked or get this ran over to that field as part of practice. It was never used. In fact there were more dogs using the field vs students! Well I guess Field School used part of the field occasionally.

Guess what DCSP did? They transferred it to the parks department.

Maybe Hardy needs take some money out of academic programs and do the same thing Maret did but with Duke Ellington Field.

Yes I heard Maret is going to cancel all the after school programs, rec and club sports not directly link to the school that use its fields and gym.

Where did you hear this? Only in your own head doesn’t count.

You are way, way behind. For a long time now, Hardy Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track have used Ellington Field as their standard practice place. For the last couple of years, DPCS schools (including Hardy) have had permitted use of Ellington on weekday afternoons. The DCPS schools welcome others--including private schools--to use Ellington track during that time as long as it doesn't pose a conflict. Since the Hardy teams practice 3 afternoons/wk, not 5, there is space to share.

(And let's be clear -- even then neighbors will jog by in the middle lane or run their dogs despite runners being mid-practice.)

The field has been used a bit by other teams, such as soccer, but it was in horrible shape. Which is why the whole thing has been under renovation for the past year! So the track and field should come out in better shape, but they have been unavailable to Hardy teams and others for a year now.

The Jelleff Field permitting is a DPR permitting issue. Not a Maret issue.
