Maybe Maret could use the $55k a year it gets from tuition/fees and get its own field instead of hoarding the prime after school hours from a DPR field for 20 years.

We already used part of the tuition to repair the field in exchange for using it for some hours a week.

Yes, you paid a sweetheart rate of $2 million for exclusive prime hour use for 20 years that was only open to Maret. DPR is putting in $28 million now to really renovate the field and make it usable for all DC residents, not just private school kids whose school is too cheap to spend on its own capital projects.

Well, it’s a legal contract you like or not.

Slavery was a legal contract. Didn't make it just. Maret's backroom "legal contract" to grab Jelleff isn't just either.

You can complain to your council member if you are unhappy with the contract.

Ah yes, no credibility of argument lost at all when comparing Maret’s agreement with DC to slavery.

What does Maret use its tuition for if it's not paying for capital projects like athletic fields?

You must be new around here. There was a huge community outcry when the Maret Jelleff no-bid contract was approved for its second decade. But it was "legal" for Maret to renew, and Maret must have found it profitable to do so despite the contract being very unpopular with the community.

What evidence do you want? Do you want to see Hardy softball's form asking for permission for each child to take the bus to Macomb or Palisades?

I don't know whether Maret is using it. But I 100% know that Hardy teams can't use it because Maret still lays claim.

+1 The deal is in place til 2029. There are news stories about this. Not sure why Maret is trying to pretend they're not part of this sketchy deal. Clearly the financial benefit of not paying to develop their own athletic fields outweighs the reputational hit they have from benefiting from a corrupt city council deal made by a corrupt city council member who was forced to resign when it was clear he was going to be expelled (and whose son attended Maret).

The deal was made with DPR during the agents administration, the CM you are alluding to was nowhere around and his son never attended Maret for a single day. Stop lying or being ignorant.

Learn to read. Several news outlets reported that Council Member Jack Evans' kid attended Maret. Jack Evans was eventually forced to resign due to corruption, but not before putting in place this Jelleff deal where DC was stuck accomodating Maret for decades...

Council member Jack Evans (D-Ward 2), whose son attended Maret and whose district includes Jelleff, on Monday defended the city’s relationship with the private school.

This is the case. The whole thing is fenced off right now.

It's maddening, because they are supposed to be renovating the building. So it's unclear why the field is out of commission. Are they doing some kind of renovations to it? If it's just for ease of construction, that's really, really lame.

Right now, DPR has Ellington, Volta, and Jellef all out-of-commission at the same time for construction. I'm not sure where they expect the community to go -- just shelve their exercize plans for a couple of years and then live it up?

But now is crystal clear. It’s not maret fault it’s DPRs fault. People get a life and don’t blame a private school because of your own frustrations.

Maret has had its hooks into Jelleff for 17 years so it deserves a lot of blame for the situation at Jelleff. That it's being renovated now with $28 million in DPR money to have much needed renovations that Maret never did is a good thing.

If Maret wants to do this, equity and inclusion should not be a part of their woke curriculum.

I don’t have a problem with wokeness. I have a problem with fake wokeness.

I would love to learn that Maret has officially cancelled the contract.

+1 No one is making up these connections. They've been widely reported, and you can just follow the money.

As opposed to genuine wokeness of most private schools. Genuine wokeness is an oxymoron my friend.

Sigh. The woke-off continues.

“And in October, the field-fight saga culminated in a packed-to-the-gills D.C. Council hearing where residents of some of the most affluent neighborhoods in the nation’s capital held a kind of woke-off of the well-off, with both sides vying for the righteous mantle of social justice in their ongoing turf war.”
