Is TCU considered elite?

And I don’t approve of this behavior (at all) but to give an example of how far from elite it is: some mean girls at my DD’s private were gossiping about why a girl decided to go ED there because “she’s smarter than that” and they think they’re all too good for the school.

You don’t approve of the behavior but are ok making a determination based on a bunch of high school kids gossiping?

This whole thread is nonsense. It is a well respected school.

No. There's a girl who committed there from our school (northeast public) and I was surprised.

Stop. The question was “it is elite”. It is not.

I’m not so sure about full pay. Both schools give a ton of merit aid, at least to OOS students. They’re trying to change from regional schools to national universities.

They give big bucks and kids usually choose both schools because of cost.

Both TCU and SMU are very much rich kid schools. That reputation is what's responsible for their national brand these days.

Probably because the schools are so cheap parents have extra cash to throw around!

Everyone I know gets significant merit aid to SMU and TCU. I know there are many wealthy families, but they dangle discounts to get affluent families who want to feel wooed.

Yes. Fake merit, not impressive, but less intelligent wealthy families are fooled by the wooing

I just had to laugh.

I mean, I'm sure it's a perfectly good school but let's not pretend it's something it is clearly not.

My kid got a post card from LSU that it was the top ranked public university in the SEC at something. Made me laugh as a Vandy grad.

Texas here. It's not academically elite, but it is a place that wealthy Texas kids can go when they don't get into UT but still want to stay in state for the networking. They do offer lots of aid to high stats kids too. It is a fun school with happy kids. Less flashy/striver than SMU and with better sports.

East coasters can be such snobs. Perhaps that’s why people want to go to tcu, to get away from people like op.

You know very well that southern families are the snobbiest of all.

TCU is a school for Chads. It might not have the academic pedigree of Rice down the road, but chuds don't get far there socially. If you haven't heard of it, you probably don't run in the cool clique.

I assume you are the Fraternity guy who always talks about A1A and Bimmers. Your posts are great comic relief.
