Is TCU considered elite?

I’m not so sure about full pay. Both schools give a ton of merit aid, at least to OOS students. They’re trying to change from regional schools to national universities.

They give big bucks and kids usually choose both schools because of cost.

Unlike many people in this area, I don't keep up with college rankings, acceptance rates, prestige tiers and the like, but I've only really heard of TCU because of football and certainly never heard anyone else imply it's an elite school. This woman has always been a bit of a BSer when it comes to the accomplishments of her kid, who is truthfully kind of average in every way. I assume this situation is no different and just wanted to be sure.

Only if you are on their basketball team

Both TCU and SMU are very much rich kid schools. That reputation is what's responsible for their national brand these days.

People can be proud of whatever school they want.

This. OP is no better than what's she painting her neighbor to be. Very weird to crowdsource this. You're talking about a kid. Who cares what their parent wants to be proud of.

We make enough that paying cash for tuition and expenses each year isn’t even a noticeable ding in our budget—but SMU gave my high achiever kid a ton of merit aid. So, at least they are trying to attract smart kids and not just make money.

It’s elite relative to community colleges and that’s about it.

No. It’s not. It’s the new SMU - Texas safety for rich kids from the east coast with some decent name recognition. But maybe the parents are just proud! I might sound like I’m really flexing when I say my kid is going to U of Arizona but I’m aware it isn’t a top school but they loved it and are proud to go there and I’m super proud they go there too!

No. Not elite. Who cares?

Define elite. Elite what? Maybe $, connections, good look…
Academically? Landing spot for tons of mediocre student wealthy kids. Reminds me of USC before they became selective.

No, it isn’t considered elite. And I don’t approve of this behavior (at all) but to give an example of how far from elite it is: some mean girls at my DD’s private were gossiping about why a girl decided to go ED there because “she’s smarter than that” and they think they’re all too good for the school.

My God, people, OP starts this petty thread and you're all happy to just jump right in.

Maybe you should keep it that way, OP. What a miserable person you must be.

Can't you be happy for people?
