Single dad by choice

But she's only their surrogate, not their egg donor?

I agree. But I agree the same is true of women who bring a child into the world via surrogacy without intending for it to have a father.

What about same sex couples? Do you approve?

She is neither. She is not their biological mother nor their surrogate, nor their adoptive mother.

She has been a mother figure in their life and has legal guardianship during periods then the father was away.

Interesting. Sounds like she deserves some credit for being his backstop. My initial thought was, how does anyone run a law firm and raise 5 kids alone? The answer seems to be that they don't. They have people.

I wish more men considered this route. As of now, women are mostly the ones going this route. I think men should seriously consider doing so as well.

I don't. Women should not do it either.

Plenty of research finds that kids in single parent households on average have worse outcomes in life, controlling for income.

The only group which does OK is girls who are raised by single parent mothers.

Children deserve both a mother and a father.

Actually, this isn't true. Studies have shown that children raised in single mother by choice households do just as well as children from 2 parent households. The issue is single parent by circumstance. Most issues there come from financial stress, relocation, and parental conflict.

Personally, if I could do it over again, I would have been a SMBC. I'm a divorced mom, and I already find it easier parenting without a man than with one.

You are completely mis-representing what your cited research actually says. "The findings suggest that the presence of two parents-or of a male parent-is not essential for children to flourish".

There is plenty of evidence that shows ON AVERAGE children of single parent households fare worse in life. Yes, it's possible that there are outlier cases. Do you understand the concept of averages across a population?

Yet you can be raised by awful parentS or a wonderful single parent.

To quote one of the best movie lines ever, "You know, you need a license to buy a dog, or drive a car. Hell, you need a license to catch a fish! But they'll let any butt-reaming a**hole be a father."

I disagree. Children need a mother and father. Also, I believe surrogacy is a pedophile’s/sex-trafficker’s dream and should be banned.

The best interest of a child should always come before the desires of a man.

Men don't willingly take on life ruining responsibility. Single parenting is typically forced on women who will cope by exaggerating the benefits of doing so. Studies pretty clearly show that children growing up in single parent households have worse outcomes and are more likely to be impoverished.

But sure, the exception to this rule is hiring staff to raise your child.

I think both men and women who want children, should consider doing it together for children's sake.

There'll need to be much stronger vetting mechanisms for men because they account for virtually 100% of pedophiles who target prepubescent kids. Beyond that, I, too, wish most men would be single parents by choice and stop marrying for the purpose of using women for our labor and uteruses. It can only be a good thing for the average lazy idiot to actually have to raise his own children that he claims he wants so much.

This would be true in a world in which men are equal parents to women. In reality, women do virtually all of the child rearing, so being without a mom is a much greater loss than being without a dad.

This. I'm a divorced mom and the workload is the same, except the jerk waste of space isn't around to make the kids and I miserable. Most men are no loss to their families.

The guy was married to a Chinese wife but decided to buy white eggs each time and have a white woman carry the child. His Chinese wife helped raise his kids.
So I dont think he was truly a single father except in a name.
