Tara Lipinski

On a separate note, her commentary has been particularly impressive.

Tara doesn't do the annoying thing Johnny does, talking about his personal relationship with the competitors.

She explains the skills in understandable terms, keeps it upbeat and knows when to stop talking and let the music take over for viewers. I really appreciate her sensitivity, particularly as we have watched many young athletes experience crushing heart in public.

I like Johnny too, but he does come off a bit self centered.

If she or NBC were willing to pay to get the suitcases there, who cares?

I don't actually care one way or the other about the outfits. If they showed up on camera wearing black turtlenecks and no accessories, I wouldn't care. But obviously *they* enjoy dressing that way for their broadcasts, and that's up to them. Like say Mike Tirico brought 9 suitcases filled with a million different blazer and tie combos for his broadcasts. I don't care about his clothes and they barely register for me but I still wouldn't care. He's doing a job, his clothes are part of his job, whatever.

I do think Tara and Johnny are really good at their commentary. Figure skating commentary has long been really obnoxious, but they do a really good job of balancing information and fun while being neither too critical nor too chummy about the skaters. I hate when the commentators are just constantly nit picking ever little thing, but I also can't stand when they are just boot licking. Sometimes Johnny gets a *little* too fanboy about some skaters, but mostly they walk that line well and are a vast improvement over prior commentators.

In the whole world of things to get your knickers in a twist about you choose this?

Are you saying trailers? Or that she and the commentators are traitors?

No offense, but how old are you?

The first post the PP was responding to was incomprehensible. If you can't be bothered to leave a coherent post, people will ask for clarification.

Jackass.

It seems like Tara tries to find at least one nice thing to point out about each skater and I agree that I find her explanations interesting and helpful.

Her suitcases were covered in NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/tara-lipinski-travel-packing/

I originally thought it seemed extreme, but seeing the outfits she's been wearing I get it. They are all like evening gowns with heavy stonework etc.

I don't really care about her clothes, but she is a good commentator.

All that packing was unnecessary. She should have just worked with an Italian stylist to borrow clothes over there; I’m sure Italian designers and retailers would have been happy to lend, to get “Ms. Lipinski’s outfit provided by Prada” or whatever credit line.

NP. Tara and Jonny are currently competitors on the television show “The Traitors” on Peacock.

Thank you. People treat capitalization as an afterthought too much of the time.

Unfortunately I was overseas for the women's short program. I was forced to watch it on EuroSport. All of you should be faced to do that. No wonder Europeans look so sad all the time during the winter Olympics. They don't have Tara and Johnny calling skating. You have no idea what a blessing they are until you don't have them.

I actually really like the Eurosport commentators. They have a lot of heart, and the ice dance lady has actually taught me a lot about the complexities of the sport.

I love Johnny and Tara, but I also really enjoy Eurosport.

+1

This is her “thing.” She did it last Olympics, too.

+2. I love their commentary, and the outfits are part of their thing.

Plus figure skating and ice dancing outfits have always been sparkly and fun. The outfits are part of the showmanship. It makes total sense to me that she and Johnny would also dress up for their commentary. It totally works in this context. I love that Tara has found a way to also be involved in her Olympic sport well after her retirement.

This!

Tara is really good! I enjoy her commentary and how she explains the jumps and what makes each challenging.
