That would change the sport considerably. Only one medalist this year was over 21 (Kaori, and this is her third Olympics at 25), and only one US skater was over 21.

This happens in every sport, there comes a time where the older commentators retire to make way for more recently retired athletes who have more insight into the current state of the sport and are more recognizable names to the audience. Tara and Johnny do a great job.

+1. Dick Button and *SCOTT* Hamilton obviously contributed a lot to this sport, but they are from different eras. Tara and Jonny are closer to understanding the expectations and pressures of this era, but even they weren’t part of the quad era. That said, Tara set the tone for triple-triple jump combinations being an expectation, not just a possibility, for women. And Jonny was a pioneer on the artistic/component side for the men, paving the way for Jason Brown.

How long until Tara and Jonny are replaced by younger former skaters?

He has skating and competition experience, plus he is intelligent and knowledgeable about the sport both present and past, and a true enthusiast. I'm actually so surprised by the criticism because they don't make it about themselves much at all aside from showing up looking their best fashion-forward selves, which we only see for very little time as the focus is typically on the skating.

We’ve had to listen to the schtick for years now. Maybe it’s time to freshen it up with more current ex-skaters with different insights.

For Olympic sport commentators, they are actually still pretty new and young. Most of them stick around for decades and go well into their 60s.

I love Ato Boldon! We watch a lot of track and it's always better when he is commentating.

I love his insight and comments, and Tara does a nice job explaining technical things. They make a nice team, not too intrusive or too much, and I feel they add to my watching experience. I don't find them mean or catty at all.

Charlie White was commentating and was a good one. His wife, Tanith Belbin, was also a commentator and was excellent. They are now both coaches and no longer commentating.

I really enjoyed Tracy Wilson’s commentary. I also think Johnny is a better commentator when he is not paired with Tara. He doesn’t talk over the music or talk about himself quite as much when he’s commentating Ice Dance.
