Home prices trends writ large are seemingly irrelevant to the County. If home prices were declining, and it mattered, tax assessments would also decline. They are not. Ipso facto, either home prices are not declining or they are unrelated to the County's mechanism for increasing tax revenue on the backs of homeowners through real estate taxes. |
If Republicans were normal maybe more people would vote for them. As of now, they’re corrupt, racist, feeble, spineless and morally bankrupt. |
That's why you know who is sitting in WH and both houses are led by Rs. Ds f'king themselves over and over. |
|
If they could, democrats would impose a global flat tax
OH WAIT |
DP. Meals tax is not 1%, it is 4%. Total sales tax on meals is now 10%. Then you are supposed to tip another 20%. Then many of the restaurants we go to raised prices at the start of the year. A $40 meal a year ago is now $55 for a family of 4 at our favorite place. It's all compounded together. Instead of going every weekend like we used to, we're now skipping some weeks. |
|
How much are you people eating out that you are freaking out about the meal tax? Reminds me of the NY Times article about people who do Uber Eats or Door Dash every night.
I just did my taxes and I owe half what I did last year. I have really simple taxes. I was pretty surprised. |
Sorry to break it to you, chicken little, that isn't what's happened in this era of hyperinflation. People are still eating out. In droves. |
|
So odd that GOP/MAGA used to be fiscal conservatives. Now it's a 100% Dem position.
Because I want my future grandkids to have a good life, I will continue to vote Dem. |
Are you referring to Pillar Two, recommended by the OECD Inclusive Framework? They just adopted the US side-by-side solution for GILTI. But that's all corporate stuff. Do you mean personal income tax? |
| Thanks MAGA for destroying tax base with all the federal job cuts, for giving more tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, and destroying heathcare (double digit premium increases), cozing up to tech monopolies/oligopolies, grifting/corruption as if we are a 3rd world country....lot of thanks for destroying "goldilocks" economy from last administration. |
They're busy, but nobody is ordering extra guacamole. |
What? Have you seen how nova can’t balance a budget at the county level whether it’s Fairfax or Arlington? Have you seen how VA legislature wanted to raise taxes despite having a deficit until they got a ton of uproar and delayed it to 2027? Are you just making stuff up to have fun on here? |
Please provide me evidence when the last time a Republican balanced a budget anywhere. Also explain to me why a government needs to balance a budget. It isn't a household or a business. |
That's exactly what I said. You can cut back on dining out or buying prepared meals while you cannot really cut back on your RE tax unless you move. These policies hurt businesses which services get additional "type of service" taxation. Taxation is also an effective way to control what type of business growth you want to discourage. |
RE taxes go up with assessments when overall housing values go up. This happens regardless who is in office. But I don't remember Youngkin administration proposing such a "palette" of taxes from taxing mundane everyday activities and jobs of low income people (providing hourly services), to high earners and investors. |
