The Rs are welcome to run some non-crazy people and dump their insane orange god-king. Until that time, there’s no other choice.

I vote with my wallet, not based on social progressivism. High taxes are anathema. One party is the tax-and-spend party. I vote the other way, because other issues are mere background noise.

As reflected in the last election, overwhelming majority of Virginians don’t want insane people running their government. Feel free to ignore that and keep losing.

Enough people think they'll be better off under a D administration, that's all. They, too, voted with what they perceived as their economic best interests. although some may have merely been voting against an unpopular President's party with out much actual analysis, not actively supporting in favor of D policies as such. Time will tell if they were right or wrong.

The thing is, the far left is just as insane as far right. That's why we keep seesawing back and forth. Both options are terrible and the voter gets amnesia about the party not currently in power.

The difference is that the entire Republican Party is far right. That is not true of the Democratic Party. There are still lots of centrists in the democratic party.

Just got our tax assessment. It increased 9% from last year! Meanwhile our neighbors only saw a 1% increase. Something is terribly wrong. We did not improve our house or change anything. We are retired and our SS and pensions only went up 3% maximum. This kind of increase is not sustainable and makes no sense. I checked the appeals process and plan to do that. There should be a limit on how much your assessment can increase in one year! Some of the houses that sold near us have lower assessments than the sold price even though the county says that the assessment is for 100% of fair market value. ???

Are they really centrists if they go along with whatever the Progressives want?

We've just has a year with the largest ever migration of wealth from the bottom to the top. The choice is to tax everyone, or tax the billionaires to continue the services people want. The states that tax the billionaires are winning

The far left is not as insane as the far right. What a load of hogwash.

For one thing, there's really no leftist party in the United States. Even Democratic Socialists just mean they want a Norway/Sweden-style form of socialism that still rewards capitalism. One reason all the pearl clutching by the right conflating it to communism when they mean (ironically) authoritarianism is hilarious.

Frankly, I'd take Democratic Socialism right now over what we got. Yeah, taxes would be higher, but we'd get a lot more for it. We'd have to deal with evil insurance companies less for health care, our education would be covered, our child care would be covered, etc. etc. I'm not really concerned with the marginal tax rate on billionaires increasing. Give me a break.

As you said, appeal. You sound like an anomaly. Stop having main character syndrome and thinking your experience is common.

I'm good with it. What's your problem?

DP
+1
The real estate tax rate remained flat and I voted in favor of the meals tax when it was on the ballot.

RE tax remaining flat is an illusion. The rate remained the same, but assessed values increased, increasing tax bills to taxpayers and increasing revenue for the County. The County has a spending problem, not an income problem.

I own a few properties in the county. All assessed value statements arrived yesterday and all have the same value as 2025.

This isn’t true and it’s a tired trope you learned from your HS gov teacher or college professor and you never investigated yourself. The American left is further left than the European left on all issues except taxation. Talk to an average European about unrestricted abortion, allowing illegal immigration, and the trans sports stuff. We’ve got family in Sweden and they couldn’t believe the states allow abortions past the first term. In Sweden we had the police randomly asking Muslim appearing passengers for their IDs and “papers” on public transport.

That’s odd, because I found lots of online sources saying abortion is totally unrestricted in Sweden until the end of the 18th week. I’m no doctor, but pretty sure that’s well past the first term.

Looks like Sweden is incredibly progressive on trans stuff too. They’ve allowed people to legally change their gender since 1973! And they just passed a law last year further expanding trans rights include taxpayer funded gender affirming care.

I am a fiscally center right, socially center left, Independent.
If I have to choose between crazy people who want to raise my taxes and give more to other people and crazy people who are cruel haters who want to ignore the Constitution...I vote 💙

I'm just curious, pp: Were you born stupid or just dropped on your head as a baby? Your measures for "left" is abortion? Liberals aren't in favor of illegal immigration -- where do you come up with that stuff? And spare me your talk about "trans sports stuff" -- MAGA assured us they were only concerned about protecting the integrity of women's sports but just this last week your traitorous president and his quislings all mocked the women's hockey team. As for asking for IDs, where in Sweden's Constitution does it have language equivalent to our Fourth Amendment?

You're beyond ridiculous, short bus. Have a seat and shut up while adults speak.

My problem is all the fraud going on with my tax dollars. Cut out the fraud and waste before increasing my taxes.
