At 7 years old, it is only weird if you make it weird.
My husband likes to tell the tale of when he had a playdate at the age of 6 with a girl. They were jumping on the bed and screaming and she suggested that they show each other their privates. She showed hers, he showed his. Then they went back to jumping on the bed and screaming. |
Well it makes sense. You exposed her to naked non-family members and lost her trust. How sad that a 7 year old can't even trust her parent to keep her safe. |
This post just unlocked a lot of my vague and weird childhood memories of kids showing their private parts at elementary school. |
No she didn't. Reread it. |
What are you misunderstanding? OP allowed her child (clothed) to be hosed off next to a naked non-family member. OP states before this incident her child was conscious of wanting privacy and has now progressed to wanting even privacy from her mother after this incident. That's serious. |
+1 Totally normal in many cultures- like all the Scandinavian ones |
I would have thought it weird too. Just leave them in suits. Plus I don’t want to see her son naked. |
| It’s really sick that woman exposed your daughter to a baby penis |
| You don’t need to worry about this. Truly, you don’t. That said, it would have been totally ok to say “let’s have the kids take turns. My kid will hang out in the front yard while your kid rinses off naked. She will then rinse off with her suit on.” |
Haha, yes! I can recall doing this too around 6 |
Yeah, same. But whatever. I don’t think she meant to make you or your DD uncomfortable and probably there are people that wouldn’t care. Now you know for next time what to do. |
But, what if the boy was uncircumcised? |
Op here. I'm sure DD would have asked for privacy from me anyways whether this incident happened or not. She already didn't allow anyone to see her naked other than me, and it was only a matter of time that she would stop allowing me as well. |
Op again. Yes anatomically it's the same as DD seeing her brother naked. But that is DD's brother, and the boy is not. So it's not exactly the "same". |
- this only occurs to hyper-prudish and puritanical Americans. |
