Where are those numbers published? |
In what way did GDS copy Maret? Or are you just saying that Maret is older than GDS? |
+1 |
| Similar cultures, GDS is bigger so perhaps more opportunities (academic, social, EC)... |
| Which is better? The one your kid gets admitted to, if one is so fortunate. |
Niche.com |
Isn’t niche.com sat score data self reported data from those who use niche.com? If so, that’s not good data because there are a lot of biases built into those data. |
Right. This entire line of discussion has been useless and silly. |
| GDS, baby! |
Exactly but if they’re naive enough to believe self-reported data from a random website then their kid isn’t getting into either |
| GDS is very good at recruiting heads of school. No drama, no firings. |
Is it really that difficult for high school? I thought GDS takes about 60 kids. |
YES. GDS is extremely difficult for HS and so is Maret. 9th grade admissions is when all the K-8 graduates and top public school kids apply. |
But some of those slots are already taken by siblings, esp at GDS. |
The class size grows from about 85-90 to about 120-135, but at least in my kid's class, about 10 8th graders did not continue in HS. So my guess is that they shoot for a net increase of about 40-45, but likely need to admit 60-65 (maybe more) to hit that number. Given the enrollment cap and a similar calculus being run for every expansion year, they probably deliberately undershoot and then go to the waitlist later. Which is an advantage for waitlist kids who otherwise will attending public because they can switch right up until the school year starts if offered a spot. |
