I honestly thought that MCPS will not ceoncentrate poverty in one school when both are right next to each other. I always assumed that Woodward and WJ will take one high FARMS ES each, but that's not the case. Our kids are done with the school, but I also wouldn't have bought here knowing the current situation. |
Boundary study was there to balance capacity and demographyt both. Not just create Whitman 2.0. You lost the plot with your thinking. NO one is saying DCC crowding be dammed. Folks were expecting not putting 2 high FARMS ES in Woodward. It would have been far better to put one in WJ and one in Woodward. It won't cause any issue in travel as well due to both being right next to each other on the same road. |
Yes, It would be my expectation as well when we sell. |
| It's a very bad outcome. |
| Einstetin and QO are fine school. I recon Woodward will be like that. A big step down from WJ. |
| I feel like this thread is a lot of doomposting. How bad can Woodward be? The high farms ES that feed there aren’t even that bad — correct me if I’m wrong. |
Realistically, you can look at 35% FARMS HS level and get a good idea. Given it will be a new school without any brand name and no STEM focus, I suspect posters are right. |
| Will the impact of being located in WJ verses Woodward district be comparable to the impact of house prices located in the Wootton HS verses located in the Richard Montgomery HS district? |
You don't know what classes it will offer. It can be another W school and offer a huge range of stem. |
Take a look at classes offered in 35-40% FARMS school. No need to speculate. |
I suspect it will be worse due to difference in FARMS being higher in case of WJ and Woodward comapred to Wootton and RM going formaward. Another point - RM will continue hosting IB magnet program. It will be diluted but still strong. Woodward is getting Art, drama, music, Media etc. |
Going forward, WJ - 15% FARMs Woodward - 35% FARMS ------------------- FARMS difference 20% Crown/Wooton - 19% FARMS RM - 31% FARMS --------------------- FARMS difference 12% RM is also going to host strong IB magnet program. Woodward is hosting program like what Einstein hosted. You can make your own guess from this. |
| Can someone post a map of what the WJ/Woodward boundaries would have looked like if the goal was similar FARMS rates? Just looking at the map that leaves Woodward at 35% FARMS those boundaries do not look unreasonable. |
VM, KP, GP all three will need bus to go to either Woodwqard or WJ. In both cases travel time will be similar due to both school being so close. Swapping areas is a great option without any negative. |
Map, please. |
