The uncertainly of new school was there for a while, while Woodward was being built. Nobody was ever bothered by that, until the boundary study. |
Well right about one thing. New WJ = Whitman 2.0 |
| I do think it is time to take off the rose colored glasses. They could have made Woodward just like WJ but they decided to favor WJ. It’s unfortunate. |
| I don't know how this will affect real estate prices in Tilden/Luxmanor area. But it seems Having WJ as a high school was a big plus for those neighborhoods. Houses in some parts of Potomac or northern part of Bethesda are priced similarly to Tildenwood/Old Farm, but you get to be in Churchill or WJ cluster. |
|
The below issues are also my concern for Farmland and Lux Manor. The current prices are inflated based on (old/current) school assignment to Walter Johnson HS, not the less desirable Woodward HS which will occur soon. Unfortunately or fortunately people don’t realize the negative impact this has the home values in these neighborhoods that have increase at a crazy rate these past few years. Too bad this will be the reason prices may finally come down.
POST 1 With the high FARMS and the art magnet, it will be an okay school—but not as desirable as WJ is today. We live in Old Farm, so our youngest will be able to finish at WJ, but knowing what we know now, we wouldn’t buy in this neighborhood given the Woodward change. POST 2 What are you basing your opinion on? Could you elaborate? All the facts and numbers say the opposite. High FARMS, limited class offerings(art magnet), new construction apartments/townhouses in the area which are not factored in but will overcrowd it eventually) I don't see a single positive. Enlighten me? Tilden family here, and we are seriously considering to move. |
That is not hig fats and kids from lower income families can be smart too. |

Question for people who live in Old Farm: WHY wouldn’t you buy in this neighborhood knowing what you know? WHAT do you know? What are the facts? What is the gossip? |
As WJ parents we knew this was coming for a long time. We thought creating 2 balanced schools and having Woodward mirror WJ was a given and were happy about it. Our kids will graduate WJ before Woodward opens but for the first time we are concerned about how this will effect our resale. We ate disappointed with this outcome. |
| This will affect resale values. Current house prices are actually too high since they reflect the neighborhood assigned to WJ, instead of the fact that Old Farm and Lux Manor will be going to Woodward. |
You don’t pay tuition and property values will not change. This is what WJ wants. They complained about overcrowding. |
I’m confused as to how you thought Woodward and WJ were going to mirror each other. It has been known since well before the boundary study that Woodward would be used to relieve not just WJ crowding but crowding in the DCC. You just couldn’t believe that they would actually follow through with that and would simply just create another “W”, crowding in the DCC be damned? |
Not all kids are wonderful... |
|
I live in old farm and my kids are grown. I don’t feel a compelling need to move at the moment, but when we do downsize, I expect to get less for my house than I would have expected a week ago. On the other hand, my house is currently worth triple what we paid for it so it’s hard to be upset about the appreciation being less. I expect the new Woodward high school to be comparable in reputation to something like quince orchard which is a fine school, but not as good as WJ was.

35-40% FARMS with Art, music and mediao focused school. Perhaps simialr school like Einstein. Einstein had similar focus with high FARMS. |
+100 Tilden/Luxmanor area is only fine if you attend private. |
