Odd so many of you were at the doctors multiple times in a week. |

We love this weather and have gone out in it every day.
Shoutout to the other poster skiing and sledding! And no, it's not cold at all, but you do need the right clothing: 1. If your face is cold, what you need is a furred hood to your coat - the right quality fur trim will help break up the wind and protect your face. You need to compare fur trims carefully. The effective ones will have long, fine fibers that don't clump (ie, the ones most resemble actual animal fur like wolverine/arctic fox). 2. if your hands and feet are cold, you need to create a bubble of warm air at your extremities with windproof, insulated mittens and quality snowboots that aren't too tight. Gloves will separate your fingers and cause them to cool too rapidly. 3. It's all about layers, and trapping warm air on your person then adding a last windproof, waterproof layer on the outside. |
Couldn’t even go a week without your blast of sodium and saturated fat from a restaurant? What a flex! |
I’m not the person quoted, but we haven’t felt the need to leave either so it’s been a lot of cooking/baking (particularly things that normally feel like “too much trouble”), reading, board games, sex, catching up on emails, PC gaming, exercise (home gym), long showers, getting around to finally bingeing a few series, etc. Household chore wise I tackled my massive spices and oils cabinet and drawers since I got a huge shipment right before the storm. |
I’ve tried chipping away at the ice, which is impossible at this point, cleaning, laundry, organized my bedroom where things from Christmas looked messy, watching TV, texting with family, etc. I’m ready to get out now. Hoping it gets above freezing soon. |
DP. Sometimes life is like that. I had a scheduled appointment yesterday and a dental emergency on Tuesday that turned into an extraction today. |
| Been out and about since Monday. Live near downtown Bethesda. Have been to Safeway and the gym and walking the dog. Drove to a doctors appointment in Rockville. Went to a movie in Chevy chase. Whole Foods in friendship heights. Drove to and from work in north Bethesda. |

Out daily. Dug my driveway, walks, sidewalks, and car out ASAP and was out and about by Tuesday. Long walks in the neighborhood and been out to lunch, library, stores. I can't even imagine not having left my house. Just not my thing. I need fresh air and some change of scenery. |

I have seen people who appear to have emerged from their homes just yesterday or today and are now chipping away at their cars and it is fascinating to me.
It seems some of you don't read or watch the news or look at any weather pages, all of which made it clear what this was going to be and how to manage the situation. Except these same people probably went to the store and cleared the shelves, so.... |
We all had the same icepack and most people have dug out already. You need a pick-axe (with goggles), or a heavy gardening shovel with metal head. I had to jump with my full weight (of 120lbs) on my gardening shovel to fracture the ice. Then I used my shovel as a lever to pry blocks away from the iceberg. Then I carried the ice blocks and piled them up in my yard (and the kids used them for snow forts). I didn't actually need my snow shovel except for Sunday, while it was still sleeting, and as a sweeper to clean up the snow dust and ice pebbles after I carried the ice blocks away. If you don't have the right implements, ask a neighbor, or order them off Amazon or another store. Deliveries have started back up again. |

The day I spend a week in my house without leaving at all will be the day I am dead in the house.
So depressing (for me). |

I have a heart condition and cannot do better. Stop being ignorant and judgmental. |
| Out daily - taking walks (I used to live in cold climate and love cold weather and so have appropriate gear), taking the kids sledding and to/from friends’ houses. I also drove to the grocery store for a few items I realized I needed. Except for the inconvenience it’s caused to others, I wouldn’t mind if we had weather like that for months. |
Pay a teenager or ask neighbors for help. My teen got a neighbor dug out (and did not charge) on Monday. |
