Nope. Interned and got job as a history major in tech company. 90K+ right out of college |
| I have a history major at a major university with a data science-heavy minor. Kid is doing very well and has many routes available from government work to academia to archaeology to other fields including business. History trains people to read a ton and even better, to be able to speak and to write well. Kid is regularly writing 10 to 15 page papers as an undergrad and must do regular in-class presentations of material. Wants to get a Ph.D. |
| I majored in History. Went on to med school |
Example of a history major who doesn't understand statistics ^ |
| Where you go to school matters more than what you major in. |
I think it makes sense to major in history with the intent on getting a PhD/masters, but an undergrad alone from most universities would not be enough to get a decent paying job. |
I've had that thought on history vs political science as well! Political science seems more well regarded, but History majors are more intelligent in my own experience. |
DH has an undergrad degree in history and is a CEO at a mid size (800 people) tech company. |
.. and had to get a masters to get there, right? |

| Great choice of a major. Your child will have a chance to demonstrate excellent critical thinking an communication skills. |
| I was a history major and doubled in poli sci. I thought about law school, but ultimately decided I didn't want to be a lawyer and went on to work in policy analysis and then consulting (not one of the well-known firms). I'm an exec at my company and do quite well. I didn't attend grad school because I never felt the need to do so. As others have noted, there are so many benefits and options for those with history degrees! |
Although, could do either! |
| I did, and became a journalist and then a high school teacher. |
