Bryan Kohberger called his mother multiple times on the morning of November 13, 2022, shortly after returning to his residence following the murders: Kohberger first attempted to call his mother at 6:13 a.m. When she didn't answer, he called his father at 6:14 a.m. He successfully connected with his mother at 6:17 a.m. for a call that lasted 36 minutes. Later that same day, he had another extensive call with his mother for 54 minutes at 8:03 a.m. In total, Kohberger spent over three hours on calls with his parents that day. But sure, they’re just a normal family and were shocked - shocked! - when the FBI raided their home.
Cite? I’m pretty deep into this and have read several books, and watcher multiple crime shows on it and haven’t heard this. It wasn’t in the arrest affidavit.
Testimony from a digital forensics expert, Heather Barnhart. I can’t find an official source though with her actual testimony. I thought it was widely assumed the reason he took the guilty plea instead of going through trial is so that his mother wouldn’t have to take the stand and reveal what was said on the calls.
No one knows exactly why he pled guilty. Just speculation. He’ll take his secrets to his grave.
