Sounds like a kid curating a resume for college and not being a normal kid. And the fact that you are asking this question is further proof of that. At some point it is all too much and sounds very phony.

Chill the F out.

Thank you! Parent of an another junior and was not feeling great after reading the original post!

This is unfortunately the amount of activities the very top schools expect absent a national level of achievement in a specific niche.

So true. Instead of whining about it, why not adapt to it. Find high impact activities like federal judge internship. I know some kid got an internship at FBI, now in at an ivy.

My kid did the fbi leadership program and said that the fbi internships are for undergrads. Agree though that sounds cool!

It is like the kids who say they are interning at hedge funds. I would not invest in a hedge fund that is having a high school kid do meaningful work. It is all BS. Be a normal kid. Scoop ice cream. Work at a camp. Bag groceries.

Agree these are good enough for VT or WM. Ivies are at a different level.

Not true. Good admissions officers see through the BS. It just doesn't make for as good narratives. I know plenty of kids at top schools who were "normal." Rather than having tiger moms curating their lives based on what the experts on DCUM and the real housewives of DMV tell them they should be doing.

Too low for UVA unless hooked. The 75tg percentile us a 4.5; median is a 4.4; bottom 25tg percentile us a 4.2

History or Econ as potential major.

Not a whole lot of time to do much else, but is there any EC that's obviously missing? He is hoping for a top 20, SLAC or mid-sized. Double egacy at Ivies but obviously a long shot.

Impossible to tell.

- Where does his GPA fall at the school in his class?
- Where does 11 APs fall by graduation (compared to the rest of the class)?
- WHere do others from his school with similar stats get in in other years?
- Many of the activities are meh: non-recruited sport, school debate club, model UN
- Can't tell about volunteering at Special Olympics (years? hours? what does he do? frequency? etc)
- Internship with federal judge (while it sounds great throwing it out there, what federal judge is taking a high school student as an intern - nepotism? what is he actually doing)?
- construction - if he only does it when not doing his sport and sport is year round, sounds de minimus
- coaching kids sounds good but again difficult to say without knowing more (hours/week, what is he doing exactly, paid/volunteer, etc.)
You need to ask the school's college counselor

Correct. I clerked for two. We would never have a minor running around chambers.

Nah. AOs are never smart people to start with. "Federal" "judge" "intern" sufficient to pass muster.
Nepo indicates connection, power, perhaps money too, all of which exactly what ivies are tailored to.

This reminds this “FGLI” kid I know. Dad owns a big construction business — she wrote that he is a “construction worker” for college apps. In at HYPSM with $$$. I was just remembering her telling me her family ate at fancy restaurants every Sunday after playing tennis earlier in the day. Crazy that a school bought her story.

That seems like a lot. How on earth are they doing all that?

1. No, there are not.

2. Family court is not in the federal judicial system.

T20 not a chance. But should have no problem with T30-T50.
