or at least highlights of a summary.
And a video of what the paint did to the creek. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vFYPpxYdKMQ |
So the federal government knew but didn't bother to tell anyone. Your plan is to transfer it to the DC government because it's more transparent? |
|
I didn't say that the DC government was more transparent, just that the DC government is more accessible. Have you ever tried to call the Department of Interior? Emails to NPS workers often go unanswered.
Just came across this WAMU article, which suggests that DC stopped negotiating with NPS. This is surprising because Councilwomen Lewis-George sent out letter expressing shock and surprise at the turn of events. What's more worrying, though, is that no updated environmental study will be required. The developer can use standards from 1995! I assume (but I am not a scientist) that protections will not include updated standards for water run off (This makes me really mad because DC residents have to pay a surcharge on our bill every month!) or protections for trees or permeable surfaces. |

Oops, forgot to include the link
https://wamu.org/story/25/12/22/rock-creek-tennis-center-could-get-new-management-and-an-overhaul/ I really think the community needs to come together and at least request that an environmental study be done. Rock Creek park is in danger of becoming a parking lot. |
|
Please sign the petition. We still need support to ensure that the community has a voice and to protect the park from becoming a parking lot.

Ein is an Obama guy. He lives here. He’s one of us. This overall an incredible opportunity on many levels. Please don’t screw this up. |
No, it’s not. Bump up the meds this week |
| Why so mean? Nothing wrong with expressing an opinion. Feel free to disagree and offer some counter points would love to engage in a discussion. No need to be unpleasant and you aren’t adding much to the conversation. |
| And I really would love it if you had some information to share about why a 30 year old environmental study is okay. Please share and explain why this isn’t concerning |
Definitely need an environmental study. At least three of them. One from the feds, one from the DC government, and then one sponsored by a non-profit with deep pockets. Then go to court to argue which study is right. |
| Anything Trump ie Piggy con man touches dies. |
By every conceivable metric the environment is significantly cleaner and safer than 30 years ago. There is nothing new to learn. You know that. I know that. You are the reason housing is so expensive. You are the reason replacing the Key Bridge will cost $5B instead of $1B. You are the reason the people in the Pacific Palisades will never be able to rebuild their homes. Please, just stop it. |
If you believe that the DC government would be more responsive to questions about contractors, you are sadly mistaken. Was the letter strongly-worded? Who's in charge of the DC government? |
Petitions are nothing but way for groups to get your email. Lobby local government and congress. Join Free DC. |
There is already a private pay to play tennis club at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center. It's called Rock Creek Park Tennis Center. Although it's not as much of a "club" as it is simply a place where the public can pay fees for court time. I will support whatever proposal gets rid of incumbent contractor Guest Services, which has run RCPTC for 40 years. They do an awful job with surely employees. Getting rid of Guest Services would be great for the local tennis community. |
