| Any update on this? Or will FCPS just sweep this under the rug too? |
My kid's 2nd grade teacher (elementary in same pyramid) did something incredibly similar, though without doubling and tripling down. We as parents were shocked and explained to our kid that a person can't say the word in any context. At the same time, we were kind of glad it never turned into a big thing. It was a dumb mistake by the teacher, but it was a mistake. |
What do you want? Prison time? |
I think fired would be a good start. |
| Went with the hard R there |
| It’s crazy to me that any non-Black person wouldn’t understand this word should NEVER cross your lips. Ever. |
It has to be reviewed and they have to have discussions etc. Not sure it is even a fireable offense. |
fair enough, but what about Black people? if the outrage is real, the word should not be said by anyone. this is why a lot of people think that the outrage is fake. |
Years ago, Whoopi defended this on The View. She thinks that she has the "right' to use the word and gave her reasons. Okay. But, as long as the word is in the music and the AA community, it will still exist. I haven't heard the recording. From the description it sounds like the woman was upset and reporting it--so I do not think her motive was wrong. She also sounds a little clueless about political correctness. So, do Black kids get in trouble for using it? . |
On either side, it’s just an “opinion” on whether or not it can be used, it’s not clear cut yes or no… context matters. |
| This teacher is not sophisticated enough to be teaching |
Yes, and on the bus. And it's not just the black kids. |
It’s not and it’s a huge problem. But that doesn’t mean teachers need to be saying it, even in the context of “Junior said n- in class!” It is just as easy to say “Junior said the n word and racial slurs aren’t appropriate language at school.” Easy, and now you’re not on camera looking like a buffoon. I’m a teacher myself and I swear it’s like once a year at school there’s an issue of a teacher getting themselves in hot water because they just HAVE to say this word to report a kid said it or because when they were telling kids not to use the word, they themselves used the word, and now it’s like ok well you’re a problem. |
Was this a teacher or a staff member? I thought I read earlier that it was not a teacher. |
No student, teacher, staff member etc is allowed to use a racial slur in any capacity with FCPS. That is all that can be controlled for, external to FCPS cannot be regulated in that capacity with respect to FCPS. You know this, and are playing the victim with "black people say it so why can't I" type stuff. |
