This is nuts. Saying the word, in any context, is problematic for teachers. Even if you’re just conveying another kid said it, DONT REPEAT THE WORD ITSELF. Everyone knows what you mean if you just reference it. It’s never ever ever required to say the word to report its usage. But then to get into a back and forth about how you should be allowed to say it adds fuel to the fire. Just idiot judgment but this kind of thing happens so much more frequently than you’d assume. |

The original video is terrible and now to ere is a bunch of spin off ones to music and with editing of her repeating the “I have a black friend” and other lovely phrases.
She has terrible judgement and almost seems like she is having a breakdown. Also frost blaming the kids that took the video as the problem is also a problem |
+1 They should be focusing on the staff member saying a slur rather than kids having their phones out during after-school hours. |
Any concern about the kids who said it initially that kicked off this whole scenario in the first place? |
Yes- those kids should be punished too. The adult involved is an idiot who made her situation worse by her own doing. Also the school principal needs to stop blaming the kids |
And the kids said it initially? |
What’s your point? People already said the kids should be punished also. But clearly, the adult should be held to a higher standard. And the audio I heard was so awful. |
NP. The kids will not be punished. Anyone who thinks they will has not spent any time in public schools recently. That word is said and posted all day long by kids of various races, with and without the hard r. Mostly but not entirely boys. The teacher should have to attend a RJ conference and maybe be provided a calming space in the building. It was probably a manifestation of being overstimulated and she might be dealing with something at home, too. We should all give her grace and space to process. |

This is like Jews and Yahweh (God). The word is so demonic that it can only be referred to indirectly.
Religious claptrap that has no place in schools. |
Honestly, I don’t care. I don’t care if some people get to say the word and I don’t. I’m fine if the kids are disciplined, but my focus is on the adult who should know better. Give her grace? No. If she needed time off, she should have taken it. Stop trying to derail the conversation. Not limited to this conversation - anyone who can’t handle dealing with immature middle schoolers who are totally capable of pushing all your buttons should not be working in a middle school. (And I say that as someone who has spent years working in a middle school.) |
It was said without malice. I'm having trouble lighting up my pitchfork. |

Never get why people get fired up over names.
Don't let words have power over you. |

As a first year teacher, I was on the playground (first grade) with another older, and very dignified Black teacher. We saw a kid do something wrong and she said, "that child is nothing but a n*****" I guess I looked shockedand she looked at me and said "I can say that--you can't."
At a very young age, I was taught that you never say that, but it shocked me that she would. This was many years ago. I still think the word should be dropped by all. But, it is used widely in some music, etc. It needs to go. |
| The teacher should be fired. |
Doesn’t sound so innocent. She used it repeatedly. |
