Do you think UVA ED is coming out this Friday 12/12/25?

Many, many highly qualified students don’t get in to UVA for one reason or another that is no reflection on their intelligence or ability. My DD thought UVA was where she wanted, but she was waitlisted and offered the UVA Year In Wise option. She declined and is now very happy at another school and realizes that it’s a better fit for her than UVA would have been. In short - don’t stress. It will work out the way it’s meant to.

She has no way of knowing that.

She has friends at UVA who say that getting into clubs and extracurriculars is highly competitive. The campus is filled with Tracy Flicks who were all top of their class in high school and who expect to be #1. That’s great if you thrive in that environment, but my DD would not. She has joined lots of clubs and made friends at her school. She knows deep down that UVA would have been more difficult socially, for her personally. UVA is a great school, but not for everyone.

+1
I am so, so glad my DD decided not to accept UVA a couple of years ago - for exactly those reasons. She never looked back and is having the time of her life elsewhere.

That’s actually true - she can’t know in hindsight

+1. It’s very bad form on a post about GETTING IN to UVA that a mom posts sour grapes about not getting in .. and of course “it wouldn’t have been a good fit” - OK, if true, then then why did you ever apply? Why dirty up a thread about those getting excited about getting in with such negativity?

Although it does help some of us so nervous, that reading these negative posts help calm the mind.😅

I disagree. It’s ugly behavior to come on a thread about ED decisions and voluntarily throw up that your kid who didn’t get in wouldn’t have liked it there. Fine. Go somewhere else but it’s rude. No one cares about your opinion. There are 24,000 undergrads and even more grad students who are thrilled to be there and enjoy the financial benefits of being in-state.

Only 17,000 undergrads. Good luck everyone.

I went to UVA and absolutely loved it but I can see how it might not be for everyone. I see no issue in people whose kid didn't get in, sharing that their kid is very happy where they are. Doesn't that help as there will be kids who don't get in whenever the decisions come out? I don't think it dampens the excitement of those who do get in.

Honestly I have no idea what these people are talking about…my child is a first year and is so overly involved in so many things, I beg them to cut back. Lol. Maybe if you’re only interested in the tippy top very competitive clubs, sure you might feel this way. But my kid and several friends are having the time of their lives and cannot fit in all the things they want to do! It’s a gem of a place. Good luck!

Will the Jim Ryan debacle and the request for governing board resignations affect admissions this year?

Same experience for my second year. Plenty of ways to be involved other than the hyper-competitive clubs. She's super involved and also finding many ways to have fun. The school is amazing.

Ok, Tracy. I’m not dirtying up a thread. I’m preparing applicants for the likelihood of a rejection - as many more kids are rejected from UVA than accepted. They are great kids, too - and will find their place. Heaven forbid I voice an opinion that life can be great at schools other than UVa.

.

Same for both of my kids there. Really easy to start new clubs too if there is something you are interested in that doesn’t exist already. Lots of funding available to assist also.

She didn’t just say that she’s happy where she is. She took a gratuitous swipe at UVA, which didn’t accept her and thus left her in no position to ever know if it would have been a good fit or not. Really bad form. The definition of sour grapes.

Yes, although the bigger, unknown-variable, is the essays-elimination.

Too many wildcards this year to make accurate predictions based on prior years.
