| Sears before it closed was at the Montgomery mall not at Wheaton in the last 10 years |
I grabbed some cookie tins and wrapping paper there about a year ago. The whole chain declared bankruptcy a couple months later. |
I think there was a Sears in Wheaton but ages ago. More recently there was a Sears Outlet with scratch & dent appliances and such in a separate building near the mall but it closed a while ago also. |

I discovered last December 23rd, when my dog ate 2 dozen double chocolate cookies, that there’s a good emergency veterinary hospital there (not actually inside the mall). My regular vet said his staff called around for an hour to find a hospital that could take my dog, and that’s where we ended up. They were great and he recovered quickly after a an overnight stay. They even gave me directions so I could avoid the absolute worst of the holiday mall traffic.

In the hour it took for your regular vet to call around, couldn't they have treated your dog themselves? |
There are people who work at the regular vet who can use the phone but cannot actually treat patients. |
After but all Joann’s closed. |
| I am not at all a Wheaton plaza snob - I’ve gone there for decades - but as I pulled into the Giant today, a police car came speeding by me, and a few minutes later there were 20 police cars there doing…something. Pretty disconcerting. |
Sears was at Lake Forest Mall, which is closed and being demolished. Wheaton Plaza had Montgomery Wards, Woodward and Lothrop, aka Woodies, which then became JCPenney. If it had a Sears, then I’m drawing a blank on it, but I do not believe it did. |
This happened to me once at Tysons near Christmas. People go nuts around the holidays. |
They had him on an IV and administered multiple rounds of medication to induce vomiting and he just wouldn’t. They’re not an emergency facility and have no overnight staff. He needed to be monitored overnight for possible neurological and cardiac effects. These are very caring vets. They made sure the hospital expected us, called us later that evening, and the next day even though they were closed (Christmas Eve) to make sure our dog was okay. Luckily, my dog is apparently capable of eating anything. |
| I like Westfield Wheaton. It isn't as fancy or shiny as Montgomery Mall, but it isn't a dead mall either. It actually has more stores that I shop as often lCostco, Five Below, and Children's Place. I also shop at Macy's and JC Penney sometimes. The food court is fine and there are also a couple of other decent restaurants like Nandos next to Costco and a good hibachi place (not in the mall but in the strip mall behind the Costco garage). There are also some aspects I don't like - the Happy Bounce place is disorganized and just not nice, the cell phone repair places are kind of shady, and I'm sad the Stride Rite closed. |
| Oh and there is a Giant in another strip mall across from Target. |
They did? During the pandemic, they were willing to bring shoes outside to the lot if you knew your kid's size and brand you wanted. |
Wow, that's so nice. Yes, they closed a while ago, maybe in 2023 or 2024. |
