I've been to most of the Asian countries mentioned as I am Asian and the thing is, China has everything. The govt does not care about you as much as you think it does people who say that have 1. Never been there visiting and 2. Are programmed to believe this watching too many movies I just took my kids there for 4 wks last summer through China and Japan. Loved it.

Hitting southern China offers a lot if beauty and the weather in your favor as summers are unbearable.

I've been to most east Asian countries. China is by far the worst place I've been over there. It hasn't been amazing at all.

Wait, are you the one who has posted about food poisoning in China?

Why do you hate it so much?

No. Not that one. I get food poisoning in SE Asia several times though. I mean poisoning, not bacteria.

Should I try to fit in a day or two to mainland China? I've never been.

Note- I'm worried about being exhausted the entire time (I'm terrible with time changes).

I've been to HK and Bangkok once, Hanoi once and my travel companion went to Tokyo recently (and is based in HK now). We could go back to those places, of course, but just mentioning it. I'd love to go to Japan

From Hong Kong, I would choose mainland China. It's such a fascinating country, and very different than Hong Kong. My personal favorite areas are Yunnan and Sichuan. Beautiful. Great food. Much more chill than the rest of China. You have the mountains. Clean air. And these are areas that have a lot of non-Han Chinese, so it's culturally fascinating. Highly recommend if you have the opportunity.

All the people saying visit China, remember you need to get a tourist visa and it isn't the simplest process.

Love everyone suggesting China, the same people that probably have posted many times in other threads here saying nobody should ever visit Israel.

Chengdu was my favorite in all of China; love the people, it was so much more laid-back, great food, and pandas were so cute.

It's February so please go south. Mainland China is great but it's going to be super cold in February in a lot of the regions other posters are suggesting, like Chengdu.

Thailand, Phillipines, Malaysia, lots of options.
