| ODP still around? Who plays there? |
|
It is interesting to see who made it from my child’s age group. A few former and current teammates made the district pool. Of those, former teammates have apparently made the state pool and current teammate on the callback list. From what I have seen I think the callback player is more talented than the former teammates who made it, unless they have improved a lot in the last 6 months. Maybe whoever is evaluating prefers the play style of my child’s former team vs. current team. Does anyone know what they tend to look for?
My own child did not try out but would maybe consider for next year as it seems the level of player is around where they are and if it’s decent training. |
ODP is a joke. |
sorry your DD didnt make it |
| Anytime kids get their foot on the ball is good, just don’t think of it as a step stone to elite soccer and you will be fine. |
| You down with ODP? Yea, you know me. |
Many Callback Players were either: A.) Talented and not at the scrimmages due to tournament attendance or they were hurt/ sick. B.) Showed some promise, but were inconsistent at the scrimmages or could not attend but given one final chance. But yes, many of the call back players are very talented; but you can just can't put them on the state player pool if they could not attend the scrimmages. -They usually put out some language at the beginning of each year, essentially telling the highly skilled players not to skip all the trainings and sessions up to that point as has been done in the past as it is a bad look. |
Ohh that makes sense. Yes the callback player on current team, along with a former teammate whose name I noticed, were both at a tournament. Also know of one current and one former teammate who didn’t make next round and that tracks with what I have seen/remember in terms of skill level and playing time. |
psssst shes a 2015 so she wasn't playing with ECNL or GA kids.. playing against water down talent. |

Odp doesn’t bring real competition or returns until you make it too Connecticut and New Jersey and Florida. Early sessions and scrimmages are pretty meaningless. Especially as the kids get older and ECNL/MLSN clubs put their feet down on players signing up.
Competition really heats up to a serious level in FL. When kids play against kids from out west/midwest. Completely different level of competition. Odp is good for DCs getting different experiences in different positions and coaches if your in season experience is lacking. My 2 cents |
lol. Why waste time and money? |

exposure to new positions and exposure in general if DD makes it far |
You should spend more time generating ideas to make more money if ODP hurts your pocket. Regarding time, you might be the parent of the 15-20ish kids better than mine in our age group in the DMV. If you are, I would be interested in how you are spending Saturday mornings this winter to see if there is a better way to spend the time. I’m all ears. I think people parrot what other people think without actually doing the research and making an independent decision. There are some people who don’t do ODP to be discovered or make an Olympic team. While it would not provide much value beyond U12 for my kid even if they were allowed to play, I don’t spend time knocking others who do play. |
