[b] It’s quite clear. DOJ was investigating allegations of discrimination in both admissions and in hiring. Yesterday’s agreement states that DOJ will pause those investigations while UVA cleans up its act - which is what Ryan was supposed to do but he played games with DOJ, which wasn’t smart and pissed off UVA’s Board of Visitors as well. Note that the Board gladly received Ryan’s resignation with nary a whimper |

Big positive for UVA!

Stop with the race-baiting. DEI served its purpose & now it’s time to adopt the radical policy of not choosing based on race. |
Nevertheless, he is temporary and doesn’t need to “own” the decision for long. However being the lawyer that he is, I’m guessing he sought advice from the right people and actually threaded the needle about as well as anyone could. |
| UVA off DC’s list. Too much turmoil and controversy. |
NP. It’s not race-baiting, it’s a statement of fact. The measure of whether there is ‘merit’ in admissions is based on the percentage of URMs people with an agenda ‘think’ there ought to be. This part is obvious. If a class is 11% black (15% of high school students), that is perceived to be too many. “Something must be afoot, that many black students can’t possibly have ‘merit’ to be there” Don’t see much administrative attack on the need to admit fewer men given the preference they get at most colleges without engineering. Don’t see attacks on geography - the rural student from Appalachia or the Dakotas. Don’t see attacks on country club sport recruiting This is not lost on anyone. People with an agenda just like to pretend it’s not the case and not say the quiet part out loud. But we all know what it is and why it is. |
I’m sure you’re very excited about UVA’s return to its glorious tradition as the home of rich, white failsons. This alum, however, is done with the place. |
| Disgusting. I guess they will only appeal to liberty rejects. What shame. I think of people who have endowments, only to deeply regret it now. |
| No DEI will eventually make UVA majority Asian female, as they tend to have the best scores, GPAs and impressive ECs. I am ok with that. Will Chad and Mackinsleigh’s parents be ok with that? |
Aww -my white unhooked boys are at an Ivy. |
Congrats! Happy for them. You do understand the meaning of “majority” though, right? |
Virginia is not very Asian—something like 7%. Since 2/3 of UVA is in state, I doubt the class will be majority Asian. I guess if they admit a ton of OOS Asians… |
| Why are inaccurate threads like this allowed to exist? |
Because people don’t use the report button. If you think posts are inaccurate, report them. |
Do you think this is a fact-checked checked news service? It is a discussion board filled with mostly crazy people. The post has already been debunked by a few sane people and the ones whose kids can't get into UVA will come here to make themselves feel better and have a story to tell when their kid attends some lesser school. It's all good. |
