Well doesn't that make sense to you. Obviously the world values and ranks accordingly schools that provide a great asset in terms of scientific research etc. Good schools do that. |
Huh, you seem to have a warped definition of "tippy top." You also don't know the schools you list. |
It’s obvious that amount of research is the defining factor with this list. Same problem as USNEWS as it does not break down numbers on a per capita basis. |
Notre Dame is $294. What a joke Clearly this is a very specific ranking based on REsearch productivity. ZERO impact to udnergraduate education…..Unless of course you select U of Arizona ahead of Notre Dame |
They have something UVA doesn't: reputation. Dartmouth is an Ivy League school and with that, it will always be considered elite and excellent, even if it has poor world rankings. Even if someone doesn't know it, once they look it up and see Ivy, it's an automatic signaling. Georgetown has a similar reputation. It is an international school that teaches world leaders. It was excellent reputation abroad. It can be ranked poorly, UVA is... UVA. A public school. The University of Sheffield, which is ranked far better than UVA, probably also thinks it is elite locally. Just like the people here think UVA is elite. UVA does not have the international reputation Dartmouth and Georgetown have. They can be ranked 400th and they'll still be elite. UVA does not have that. |
Ummm. Research is a pretty strong indicator. Notre Dame is basically a liberal arts school. Nothing wrong with that it's just what it is. Their Engineering college is barely a Top 50. They are right where they should be here on the world stage. |
After you pass 150, does it really matter? |
yes, I’\m picking U of Arizon and Arizona State ahead of Notre Dame! Great rankings for High Schoolers to look at for undergraduate education.
|
Yes |
| This is heavily STEM focused. Doesn’t mean much to me. |
Yes, I agree. That is why I said schools with heavy research offer an interesting setting in several ways. I graduated from one such school ranked fairly high on the list and I encourage my kids to consider this type of school. |
For most of the world, that’s what makes your college elite. It’s only in the US where we base it off young men’s ability to throw a ball. |
In what way? Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Berkeley are all leaders in the humanities and social sciences. MIT even has very strong humanities departments. You sound ignorant. |
Yet NYU is highly ranked and has less than 25% STEM |
Are you saying we should have been looking at U of Arizona all along instead of Notre Dame? |
