They have something UVA doesn't: reputation.

Dartmouth is an Ivy League school and with that, it will always be considered elite and excellent, even if it has poor world rankings. Even if someone doesn't know it, once they look it up and see Ivy, it's an automatic signaling.

Georgetown has a similar reputation. It is an international school that teaches world leaders. It was excellent reputation abroad. It can be ranked poorly,

UVA is... UVA. A public school. The University of Sheffield, which is ranked far better than UVA, probably also thinks it is elite locally. Just like the people here think UVA is elite. UVA does not have the international reputation Dartmouth and Georgetown have. They can be ranked 400th and they'll still be elite. UVA does not have that. [/quote]
