Pope Leo XIV says 'inhuman treatment of immigrants' in the U.S. isn't 'pro-life'

Christians are followers of Christ, not Christ.

Christ died for our sins. He shouldn't have died in vain. The more we sin, the more meaningful Christ's sacrifice is

The MAGA split in the US Catholic church is going to be interesting.

If the Pope keeps it up I give it 6 months before someone in the Trump administration calls him leftist, communist, woke, enemy, or the like.

MAGA evangelicals don't really consider Catholics to be "Christian" in the way they are. It's not like they care what the highest Catholic cleric says.

Jesus died on the Cross. Something you will never do
Prove me wrong.
There are a lot of MAGA Catholics. How do they reconcile the words of Pope Leo, Pope Francis and Jesus himself with their MAGA beliefs? Who knows, but they know they really don’t like women who want abortions and trans people.

There’s quite a few MAGA Catholics on the highest court of the land.

These people are Catholics in name only, just as many MAGA are Christians in name only.

Jesus' family were immigrants and refugees. He preached about welcoming the stranger, and loving thy neighbor, who is not just John next door.

Jesus's family went home after the danger passed. Something our "refugees" will never do.

I’d rather keep them and deport maga to wherever it is their families are from. The problem is that no country on earth would take them.

Putin will welcome them with open arms.

That’s more megachurch than Catholic.

This statement is consistent with the Catholic Church's Catholic social teaching over the course of the last fifty years.

Many refugees have gone "home" after the danger has passed.

Many more see that the US is so dangerous that they would rather go home than face persecution here. We are on the brink of creating refugees from our own persecution. Not even joking. Canada is welcoming Trans refugees. Congrats!

This has certainly been historically true, but at this particular point in time there is a lot of common ground between MAGA evangelicals, Christian nationalists, and so-called trad caths. I can 100% see the trad caths, led by the likes of JD Vance, breaking from the Pope and founding an American Catholic church.

Regardless of how evangelicals feel about Catholics, MAGA Catholics elected Trump twice, and voted for Trump three times. A huge part of his support is the Maga Catholic crowd. They are very loyal to Trump. Less so to the Pope. They consider the Pope not Catholic enough, I suspect.

I know some MAGA Catholics who, while Pope Francis was alive, said they didn't think Jesuits were "real Catholics." I am praying for a schism.

Which is incredibly funny since Gorsuch and Kavanaugh went to Jesuit high schools, and Scalia all went to both a Jesuit high school and then to Georgetown (also Jesuit).

So, you agree that we should welcome the refugees and treat them well?

Putin will welcome them with open arms.

There was a washington post story of a family that moved to Russia….

.. and they were not welcomed with open arms. The husband ended up in the front lines of the war, and the wife and children were seen crying in the streets. And apparently, the "little girls" need saving.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/father-moved-family-russia-escape-153940643.html

The Huffmans settled in an “American village”, a settlement in Istra created by US expat and blogger Tim Kirby, who has lived in Russia for two decades. It was founded in 2023 as a refuge for Americans fleeing what Mr Kirby described as “liberal gender norms”.

However only two families, including the Huffmans, are known to have moved there, according to a report by United24Media.

"Someone who says I'm against abortion but is in favor of the death penalty is not really pro-life," Pope Leo said. "And someone who says I'm against abortion but I'm in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don't know if that's pro-life."

Pro life only applies to the unborn to punish women for engaging in sex. Important to note that these pro-life Nazis are not in favor of pre/post natal care.

Exactly. Many Catholic priests believe they are progressive, but the fact that they shore up the regressive social norms and backwards belief of the Catholic Church means they churn out conservatives.
