The anonymous staff member SPECIFICALLY says the departures aren't due to the Nelson incident:

“I think is telling to the drastic change in staff at Wootton and it wasn’t a direct correlation to what happened with Mr. Nelson,” an anonymous staff member who left said. “There are narratives being written and made about Wootton culture and staff and it got ugly and to the point that people didn’t want to be around it anymore.”


Honestly, it sounds like the mostly White staff are mad at the Wootton Black Student Union, and MCPS Central Office for believing them, for calling out the subtle and overt racism they experienced at Wootton that went unchecked and unanswered for so long. And once those accusations went public, those staff members are now in their feelings and claiming that they're not "being supported" because that conversation went public.

If that's the case, good riddance to bad rubbish then.

This article illustrates the negative impact that Moran’s Central Office directly has on teachers and students.

Key insights include:

“Nelson was ultimately found not guilty for the charge against him that he did not follow MCPS’ hate bias protocol.”

“As staff members tried to do their work, they wanted to receive support from the new administration, but there were people from MCPS central office who came in, ‘and basically told us that we were the problem, and that didn’t sit well with us”

A sad state of affairs and a lot of tax dollars wasted here.

The current administration is working very hard to support the new staff. The new staff are working hard to help all students. The students are doing just as well as before, and maybe even better.

Wooton sounds like a bad place to work at the moment. I actually like Taylor but I think he handled things badly at Wooton last year. He sometimes makes snap decisions and they don’t always work out well

Are you Central too? MCPS has a really really really bad habit of blaming others without an honest investigation.

You are part of the problem too. A whole staff is accused is being racist? Highly unlikely. And here you are doing the same thing?

This is getting out of control. If you recall, a principal was recorded under oath stating that he lied about a white teacher being “racist”. Guess who is 500k richer?

I hope the truth comes to light. Because I am sick of MCPS making a mockery of due process and fair investigations. Food riddance to the actual rubbish. - CO

No, I'm not CO. I 100% agree with you that MCPS absolutely is trash when it comes to due process and fair investigations.

But my comments about my conclusion from the article have to do with the fact that the article states staff were unhappy with: "narratives being written and made about Wootton culture and staff and it got ugly."

The only narrative I'm aware of about Wootton is the one around the unaddressed racism that was brought to light by the Wootton BSU. So that's why I'm saying it seems like teachers at Wootton are resentful toward those students. If there were other narratives about Wootton that were negative and implicated staff, then I'm not aware.

Again, that article is confusing, because on the one hand, it states that staff dissatisfaction is not necessarily correlated with Doug Nelson's ouster, but then their chief complaint is about the narrative about staff and the perception that kids could lie on them and admin won't back them up, which does seem related to Nelson's tenure....

While this is true for many, it is overcomplicating the issues. Under Nelson and Bostic, the staff haven’t been prioritized or listened to. New initiatives are put in place and communicated at very last minute, usually without collaboration and staff input. It seems to be slightly better this school year.

One of the new APs is Seyoum from Magruder. Staff here are happy she’s gone. She is hated because of how rude, disrespectful and demeaning she is to staff. She is insecure and incompetent and zero knowledge of the MCEA contract. She has more complaints logged against her with the EFR/Union than any other AP there. And that’s saying a lot because this school keeps MECA busy! The Uniserv director is here several times a week. She misses a lot of work, shows up late and unprepared, and fails to met deadlines/ obligations. She plays favorites, is unprofessional and gossips with ILT which of course gets back to staff. She lied and destroyed already fractured departments here. She will destroy Wootton if she even lasts past this school year.
