I could see a naive, ignorant self centered person - of any income level or “success” - always behaving like this. With the kids, planning a vacation, and this new legal process. He must be used to waving a magic wand at work or home and things are, POOF, finished for him by someone else. Good riddance. Protect yourself and your sanity, and that of any kids. Good luck. |
PP is awful. Ignore Anyone who received divorce papers in this situation would be contemptuous. |
+ 1000 typical untreated mental disorder reactions and overwhelm. They’ll still blame you for everything they did, of course. Maladaptive cope. |
Nah, mediate this asap, stay out of court and have more commingled assets to split. Don’t let this fool burn $200k of legal bills because he’s incompetent. |
No, doubt it. My HFA ex would even lie to our tax preparer and his own doctor. Of course they lie to their own divorce attorney. And wife. Lie to protect their ego and image. |
He filed and he’s apparently not meeting the deadlines for submitting basic stuff. He’ll be in contempt of court soon, dragging his heals and claiming he’s too busy and important to find all his bank accounts or sign something… or read the temp custody paperwork. |
Oh gross. He’s really dumb and has no common sense. Oh well. Hiding assets and deferring bonuses or income at work is Contempt of Court + results in rewarding the honest spouse with more than 50/50. |
His elderly mom will swing in and help him with the legal processes, watching the kids, and hiding money. She’ll also continue to keep his mental disorders secret. |
That’s not for him nor you to decide. That’s typical discovery during a divorce. Is he really that entitled that he can decide on whim not to list his assets because he’s a private lazy person?! Is he from a foreign country or ESOL? He’s in for a rude awakening. But he’s probably had many series of those throughout his entire life. |
Yeah right. An hourly lawyer telling a dimwitted client to respond more quickly, or at all, so they don’t pay the lawyers more and more?!? |
He’s been pretty sheltered from rude awakenings but yes, I agree that he’s in for one. He is originally from outside the U.S. but an English-speaking country but has never engaged with any kind of legal system before. There are some basic things that anyone who has watched a legal show on tv would understand that seem to have already caught him by surprise. |
Well, my lawyer certainly told me that doing financial forensics or going to trial would cost a fortune and likely would not benefit me. So they do exist. |
OP and my DH hasn’t exactly lied to our tax preparer and doctor but always tells partial versions of the truth that lead to pickles. Before we filed jointly he had to refile taxes multiple times and sometimes years later for big stuff. When his doctor gave him a diagnosis he didn’t like, he left and went to another practice but didn’t understand electronic records and that other doctors could access them. |
Thank you for the reminder about total cost of attendance- I have a financial advisor who is working on this with me but it is easy to get stuck on tuition vs total cost. Every detail counts, thank you. |
Oh for god's sake, no one should be married and not know their partner's logins and all assets. When people do this, they are not in a marriage. If you do not have these now do this today people male or female I don't care do it today. Make copies of everything. |
