You should’ve given her some cash.

I don’t give cash and it’s dangerous to do so. Someone may rob you next or keep coming back.

+1. Never give cash.

What?

Food isn't basically free, are you nuts? What store lets you eat as you walk around?

Well I was passing a store yesterday and there was a woman sitting begging on the ground outside. I stopped and asked her if she wanted any food and she said "no, I need shoes" and showed me her gnarled naked toes, under her blanket. I asked her size, bought her a pair from the store she was sitting outside along with 2 pairs of socks. She put them on, jumped up and left.

+2. Never, ever give cash!

Look my partner and I both donate thousands of dollars per year (and we are not wealthy) to a variety of causes, including helping homeless and distressed individuals right here in FFX county.

We are NOT saying “don’t help.” But we are saying: let the experienced, organized, groups render aid to those truly in need, based on their experience and training.

Handing out cash on the street puts you (and possibly your children) in danger and the cash usually ends up with drug dealers or liquor stores; it ultimately hurts more than it helps. Don’t do it!

You’re scared of being robbed by a sobbing grandmother?

You MUST be a maga.

What a gross comment, esp. today.

Do you go shopping? I see it all the time. Even UMC do this.

Call the police. What she is doing is illegal. She's likely to get shot.

Should have asked for her address first. Verify where lives.

It was very generous of you to offer her free groceries.

This.

This can be a scam to get inside your house. You did the right thing.

Call the police. They could be violent.

Please don't make me cry op. I would have gave her some food like you dud or taken her to throw closest grocery store to buy those grandbabies some food!

At the end of the day you don't really know if she was telling the truth but in the event that she was I assure you the food meant more to her than the cost of the food that you potentially lost if she was lying.

Think of it this way either you are out 20 to 30 dollars worth of food or you could have potentially saved some children from starving.

What you did was worth the risk.

In another world, sure.
In this world, dangerous.
OP if she comes back do not give her anything. Offer to call the nonemergency police number so they can get her help if she is "on foot with hungry babies."
