What to do with beggar at my door

Anonymous
I wouldn't have given her anything. America is too dangerous today.

I think it’s nice you gave her food.
I might have asked her if she needed police to come out to help her find resources. Or suggesting the crisis center if in moco.

I had an interaction with a woman with a story similar to hers in a parking lot once. I ended up giving her $20 and she kept asking for more. I knew I was being scammed even as I gave her the money.

I have, too, by a gypsy guy.
It's on him for being a scumbag, not on me for trying to help a fellow human.

Call 911. She could be aggressive and kill you.

I would have been to afraid to do anything but quickly walk away and say no sorry.

You should’ve given her some cash.

I don’t give cash and it’s dangerous to do so. Someone may rob you next or keep coming back.

You’re scared of being robbed by a sobbing grandmother?

You MUST be a maga.

It’s comical how you attribute every negative characteristic to MAGA, even when it is counter to the movement (for example attributing obsession with climate change on the wood burning thread.) MAGA folks are more likely to give to charity and to not be scared of interacting with people on the street. You should try speaking to some actual people to learn about them, instead of watching MSNBC.

Just don’t give her items from your house. She will be back!

You should have invited her in and given her more food.

90% of the time, cash ends up in the pocket of drug dealers or in the cash register at the liquor store.

As PP pointed out, food in the DMV is basically free. If she actually has grandkids (doubtful) they eat for free on the generous WIC program

In fact, the food problem is so non-existent in this area, they have moved to calling it food insecurity instead of scarcity. So, if you ever wonder about the food you are eating, you have food insecurity and that's a challenge we need to address.

It was very generous of you to offer her free groceries.

I don’t know if I would’ve done the same thing. I hope I would. You’re very generous and kind to give her food.

Your MAGA posts are getting to be comical. Trump lives rent free in your head all day every day doesn't he?

Bless your lil heart.

I had a similar incident once but on a really cold night and the person said they were looking for blankets. Seemed like a weird thing to scam for, so we gave them a bunch of old blankets and comforters. They said thank you repeatedly and never came back, so I assume it wasn't a scam. I would do the same thing you did OP: what's the downside in giving $10 in non-perishables if there's a chance it's legit. It's not stuff people usually scam for.
