Tried and was told no. Thinking about going across the river, which drive I hate so much.

PP. to be clear, they have the vaccine in stock but are not allowed to give it to me due to VA law (which was passed by Democrats decades ago). I have two qualifying conditions.

I am a primary care provider and I am getting swamped with messages from patients being turned away at pharmacies in DC and VA if they do not have a prescription from a provider - even people over 65.
Maryland is fine- thank you to Gov Wes Moore. This is really terrible for patients and also unnecessary barriers to care and unnecessary busy work for providers.

I managed to get it though. Did your doctor submit a prescription? My PCP is very responsive on the patient portal.

We drove to CVS in Rockville Friday morning. Easy.
We had prescriptions but didn't want to wait because we have an event to go to later in the month.

Call to be sure they really will do it. I had an appointment last eeek, called they were not allowed to do it by CVS.

When I filled out the online scheduling form, I had to certify that the three of us all have one of those medical conditions, but I didn’t have to specify which one, not even for my teenager. Very easy. Happy to be living in Maryland right now.

Same story but at Walgreens, not CVS.

If someone is over 65 in Virginia, do they need a prescription?

I just got my Covid shot at Walgreen’s in VA. I am 52. I said my medical condition was depression and anxiety (true).

My 17yo and 13yo could not get it without a doctor’s prescription, though. Their pediatrician’s office said they have placed the order and will be getting them at some point, so I will wait and go that route for them. I want them to get the shot! We all go to diff schools (I am a teacher) and I do not want to have to deal with Covid in our house; I being home enough germs from my school as it is! And Covid HAS already shown up just a week ago at my school.

The pharmacies I called said yes. But they were not doing shots yet. No supply or corporate hadn't given permission.

My late-70s inlaws just got it in VA, and they needed a prescription.

Harris Teeter in MoCo has them. Just has to say I have a qualifying condition. Didn’t need to say what. They said. OST people don’t realize they even have it yet so seems they have plenty of availability. Easy to schedule online.
