An insane surrogacy story

To me the part where she described her second surrogacy as “perfect” when that poor woman had to have a hysterectomy before she bled out after the birth boggles my mind.

Right!? The baby was perfect, the mom wasn't even a human being to her

I put it in the google link for all who can't access it.

Unbelievable story. The part that really got me was when the rich woman freaked about her baby measuring in the 30th percentile for growth and worried that he was "defective" already. What a nightmare to be around.

Right? She is Chinese and tiny herself!

I could not stop reading this story this morning - Silicon Valley venture capitalist hires a surrogate, difficult pregnancy results in a stillbirth, and the venture capitalist goes (legal and internet) guns blazing against the surrogate.

I believe surrogacy should be void against public policy with narrow exceptions, and this case is a huge part of why I believe that.

Surrogacy should be illegal as it is in Europe

It's perfectly legal to volunteer to be a surrogate for a relative or friend who needs one. What's illegal is a bidding war for the use of a poorer woman's uterus as is done here. This story just highlights how disgusting it is.

OP you really should have gave us a better summary. Everyone's so quick to post links but not a thought out post at all.

You should have proofread your post for grammatical accuracy. Everyone’s so quick to post, but yours was not a well-written post at all.

Agreed!

Which also shows that Bi--literally the one who wanted to buy a baby--doesn't have the most basic understanding of genetics. She thought the baby should be bigger because Smith--the surrogate--was tall!

If you’re not interested then don’t read it and just go away.

This is the rare article that changed my mind on a subject. I used to have a live-and-let-live attitude about surrogacy, but this story shows just how horrifically people can take advantage of one another. And the poor children who are created are considered products to buy. The most unfortunate person in the whole article is the baby girl who has to be raised by this totally unstable narcissist.

NP. Surrogacy is morally and ethically wrong, and should be illegal. This is a travesty.

For sure. They try to derail every thread about surrogacy that I’ve seen.

Look at the archive link a few posts above.

And PPs, if this article is too long for you to read, consider changing your information habits. It's a normal magazine-length piece. Why is that too hard for you?

+1. It's also horrifying, the attempted criminalization of pregnancy loss.

I’m not going to read a long article. Usually these things can be summarized in a few sentences.

Everything possible to try to wreck the life of the surrogate who experienced still birth while hospitalized. Suing her, cutting off payments, leaving surrogate on the hook for hospital bills (including weeks of inpatient monitoring). Bi wants her to go to jail, lose her own son, etc.

Also mentions that placental problems are due to the dna of the embryo and this isn’t routinely disclosed to the GC. Gestational diabetes, placenta previa, abruption, etc.

Bi also said her next GC was perfect, despite the fact that her GC experienced severe bleeding necessitating an emergency hysterectomy and ICU admission with intubation.

Alternative version: GC lied to IPs about her living situation and concealed material information from them throughout pregnancy, including a placental abruption. She then made a series of poor decisions that killed the fetus.

The evidence at hand — which seems to be substantial and is detailed in the article — does not support this whatsoever.
