No. But fights were just a thing you didn’t get expelled for them. Smoking was just a thing as a matter fact, we had a senior lounge that allowed smoking. Kids drank at 18 so if you were drinking at 16, nobody gave a shit. We didn’t have all the strivers complaining about more AP classes. If a teacher punched you, it was just discipline. Bullying was part of life it helped you grow. Was education better? Hell no. Was complaining less? Hell yes. |
It’s a Big world out there if you got your head out of the a-hole of every moco politician, you might see what’s really going on. |
Wtf? You must have been one naughty kid |
for 30+ years all I heard was teachers complain about the one thing the Dept of Ed ever did...and that is "No Child Left Behind" |
The one that stopped teaching phonics? Now I wonder why they would complain
|
exactly, and now MD is getting rid of memorization of times tables in grade 3. All of cognitive science tells you that memorization of simple facts allows the brain to focus more easily and learn advanced thinking...and in terms of math, this means their future learning of algebra and above. And I swear, if someone tells me they never use algebra, let me ask you how you decide to buy a dozen eggs for 3 dollars or 6 eggs for 2 dollars cuz you're doing algebraic thinking to make your choice! |
and same poster here...if someone tells me they don't see the use of calculus...if you ever see trends, like, IDK, temperature influences and land masses, or stock prices and tariffs...that is calculus in action. |
You need better math skills. I’m the class of 1997 (out of state) at a HS with over 3,000 kids and it was t like this. If you had sex, used drugs, smoked, assaulted students/teachers you were suspended. Multiple times and you were expelled. |

Has anyone ever experienced applying for one position and then central office staff asking you to consider applying for another position?
|
Not personally, but I have heard accounts of this, they are trying to fill the high need positions first. Email the school principal your interest directly, the principal won't let central office swipe you when you're interested in filling a vacancy at their school more. |
Thank you! |
| As of 8/20 there are 290 teaching positions listed. Some are part time of course, but that’s pretty high with only a few days left before school starts. |
175 are full time, that's an average that is less than 1 opening per school in MCPS. |
The worst is administrations who allow zero consequences for violent kids in the classroom. Teachers never signed up to be a punching bag. |
| PEP is down teachers, paras and speech. |
