Still a teacher shortage?

Yeah, really.

Go get a job where you can be shot by a six-year-old child, deal with angry parents, be paid very little, and constantly be attacked by the GOP.

The MAGA is having their way by running teachers out of the profession.

Oh, how ironic that the billionaire white pedophile males who love sex trafficking attack teachers.

Where I live they are not allowed to pay special ed teachers more due to union rules. Pay goes by seniority only. Sorry, but the special Ed teacher's job is infinitely harder than the art teacher's, and they should be compensated accordingly.

I am a MCPS special education teacher. It is the same where I live, MoCo.

I’ve dealt with it by not joining MCEA and redirecting what would have been valueless union fees to me at the stock market + securities instead.

My mindset would likely change if special educators were paid a supplement bonus similar to NCBT teachers or a revised pay schedule was implemented with levels (Sped Teacher I, II..etc).

NCBT pay bumps should be same for SpeEd teachers

Not a big ask given the shortage.

They have been using teachers, blaming, and running them out way before maga. I would say the maga youth is a result of having no ed support and the kids can't critically think anymore.

Teachers can opt to not join the MCEA? I didn't know that.

Are kids less well behaved in school as compared to 20, 30 years ago?

Yes. State law prevents unions from forcing employees to join. You still get some benefits (salary bumps with everyone else) but not the representation.

Many Special Ed positions.

Are there any concerns that staff have heard a schools this summer?

All teachers, but especially special ed, have no protection from violent kids in the classroom. That’s why.

That union was mandatory and expensive when I was a teacher. It seemed my dues went to getting no support and the union working with admin to fire teachers. I thought the union would support teachers as it was a year of extreme violence at my school. No one cares about the teacher. They also lie to unemployment to try to sabotage your ui benefits. Is that illegal?

Say you know nothing of MoCo politics, without saying you know nothing of MoCo politics.
