That’s exactly what retiring in Orlando is

Winter Park is quite nice and I bet most of you can't even afford it.

I don't understand the "without the hurricanes" comment. I would guess the Outer Banks and Florida (though it seems the St Augustine/Jacksonville area never is hit by an Atlantic hurricane) are the worst for Hurricanes, but coastal VA is definitely within the hurricane band. I mean, my family in Maine worries about hurricanes and they often hit Nova Scotia.

Much more often than not the Gulf Stream pulls hurricanes to the NE and away from coastal virginia. Yes, it has had hurricane hits, but nothing like the frequency of the Outer Banks or Florida.

As a WM parent I like Wburg but I don’t quite get retiring there especially from this area. Is the draw that it’s cheaper than this area? Otherwise it just seems like a perfectly fine but not terribly exciting suburb. I’d rather just stay in this area.

I went there for a week as a vacation. It was boring.

What is so terribly exciting about most of the burbs in our area?

It averages about 10 degrees warmer than Northern Virginia, for one thing. Rarely snows.

For this matter, I think Virginia Beach would be better. The beach is right there, and there’s always something going on.

The health care system is very large across Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and I believe the bridge is also planned for expansion in the future.

Isn’t Virginia Beach much more conservative because of all the military folks living there?

My parents retired there 20 years ago. They've been super happy there.

Virginia makes you pay taxes every year on your vehicles even after they're long paid off. That would piss me off, especially if I were retired.

Not all of Williamsburg is colonial Williamsburg you idiot.

It's not Kingsmill per your post, but mom likes CH.

My in-laws live in CH too. They love it there.
